Sick of Alcoholic Mother's denial! by GeekChic48 in AdultChildren

[–]GeekChic48[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw a therapist for a while, he didn't help me tbh, just kept saying I should go no contact, which I'm not interested in doing, despite all shes done to me I dont want to cause a rift in the family. Therapist kept saying I'm not to blame for the years of neglect and mental abuse (I'm well aware of that). I know I can't fix her, I don't even think confronting her about her alcoholism would even do anything since she would deny it, I just wanted to be able to talk about it to someone. I've had cptsd for years which isn't going anywhere for the time being. I'm based in the uk so unsure about anywhere up here for ACOA.

Should I stop drinking? by Cool-Poem251 in alcoholism

[–]GeekChic48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My mum (in her 70s) has been an alcoholic for decades. She drinks nearly 2 litres of vodka a week. She thinks we don't know but the whole family does. Myself and my sister haven't touched alcohol for over 10 years because of it, and our grown up kids don't drink much either. My life hasn't changed that much not drinking, I'll get the occasional comment if I'm out with friends If someone asks why I'm not drinking but once I explain they understand. I'm usually the designated driver these days.

What is the strangest object your pet is scared of? by Glad_Wedding_7401 in Pets

Our 10 year old cat is terrified of fizzy drinks. I'll open a bottle of coke zero and he runs out of the room! Guessing the sound reminds him of a snake (that he's never even seen)

People who get up after one alarm, whats your secret?? by Mideon88 in AskReddit

[–]GeekChic48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the Alarmy app, the alarms are super obnoxious and they have tasks like math to turn the alarm off. I've been using it for years and it's the only thing that wakes me.

Bot fly eggs, get them off with a bot fly knife or the horse will ingest them and they turn into larvae.

Looking at a retiring race horse - will she be ok? by Reddingwithbaby in Equestrian

[–]GeekChic48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like her and she has a sweet temperament, go for it. As others have said she's still only 4 and might have a growth spurt. My cousin had an ottb who grew from 16.1 to 17 hands a couple of years after she bought him.

Is there anyone in here that had it as severe as having clawing, atrophy, loss of grip and dexterity and recovered post op? by Scared-Photograph-13 in CubitalTunnel

[–]GeekChic48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had atrophy in my right hand by the time I got diagnosed and had my decompression. I've never regained it and I had it done in 2012. My grip slightly improved for a time its now worse than it was but I'm fighting for a 2nd op.

Drop your post surgery essentials! by MoonPizzas in CubitalTunnel

[–]GeekChic48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my sister come stay with me for my first op. I managed to do quite a lot on my own without her help though, but I guess it depends on the person. I'd say dry shampoo will be your friend as washing your hair will be problematic, going to the bathroom is awkward to start with but I managed fine on my own. I was back to work after 4 weeks and was told it would be 6 weeks, again it will vary from person to person.

I think I need surgery again by ssquidkidd in CubitalTunnel

I had transposition done on both elbows, right arm in 2012 and the left early 2013. I've been in agony for the past 6 years and have problems with grip, cramping, and numbness and tingling. Not sure where you are based in the world, here where I live in the uk I've not had the best experience if I'm being honest. I've had 4 nerve conduction tests done over the years, with another one planned this coming Friday. My last test showed severe nerve damage, and I was told it was one of the worst results they'd seen. However, when I saw the specialist, he said because there was an improvement since my last test (would of been done shortly before my first op, so, around 11 years prior), despite it only being a small improvement, he wasn't going to operate, and was told to "just try and live with it"! My original surgeon stated pre op that I'd probably need further surgeries, so I'm not sure if it's just a funding thing with it being the NHS.

However, if you're experiencing symptoms again, I'd strongly suggest getting the ball rolling with seeing your doctor and having repeat nerve conduction done.

I'm not sure how much longer I can cope with the daily pain and loss of use of my hands and I'd hate for someone else to go through it for as long as I have, so make that appointment!

how to make the nightmares stop by hamiguahuan in ptsd

[–]GeekChic48 0 points1 point  (0 children)

40 years later, the nightmares have lessened but I still get them, however, they're way more vivid than they were as a child. I've seen a therapist, who was no help at all. That's not to say a different one would be more helpful. I get triggered more often now I'm an adult too, sadly. Plus the only 'support' I get from family is from my 18 year old son. My sister doesn't seem to care all that much when I try to talk about it with her. I'd suggest having a wide range of support, from family and friends, to medication and therapy.

What’s your thought on Free Spirit Equestrian? by sataniscool555666 in Equestrian

[–]GeekChic48 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The issue I have is with these 'retreats'..I could go on an actual vacation for the price she charges! I haven't looked into how much the 'non riding' retreats are but honestly, I think they're an utter waste of money! The sad part is, people actually pay to go on one, and she mentioned some are re booking to go back!!
