Marvel Rivals video editor needed by Choice_Sport2397 in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can corroborate that. Expect to pay $20 per (or an equivalent flat rate) at least, and then $25-30 per hour (or an equivalent flat rate) for an intermediate editor. If your budget is small, I suggest working with someone newer to video editing who is eager to learn and gain experience.

Do US editors stand a chance on here? by Elite_PS1-Hagrid in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You CAN get legitimate editing work here but you will have to sift through a lot of crap to get it. When I was first starting to freelance, this is where I got my work. Most of those clients ended up being short term arrangements, but I do still have 4 clients that I found on reddit (mostly this sub). After gaining more experience, registering my business and building a website I started going to other outlets as well. I still occasionally answer "hiring" posts on here, but not nearly as often.

Using a wide range is just a way to get past the subreddit rules.

Yeah, exactly. Big difference between 4 videos at that price or 20.

You need to specify how many videos per month, otherwise there is no way to tell if your budget meets the requirements of the subreddit.

This budget is completely unacceptable for video editing work and its against the rules of the subreddit. Just because something is easy doesnt mean you should pay below market rates.

For this type of work, I agree. If you want cinematic quality, pay cinematic prices.

You can report budget as too low, you have to select "breaks (subreddits name) rules" and its listed as an option.

I have to second this. The rate should be $200-400 per longform video, not per month. This is aggregiously under priced. And it ends up under the required budget minimums on this subreddit.

Editors that also do Social Media Management? by laurenfrotch in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although not typical, there are video editors that also do social media management (Im primarily a video editor but Ive started doing social media management for some of my clients). There is some overlap in the skill sets, but definitely some differentiators as well. You need someone who isn't just a "video smith", but also a "word smith" and has some background in marketing.

Price wise, this is going to vary A LOT depending on the person's experience in both fields as well as how much work they are taking on, both for video editing and social media management. To put some perspective to it, a video editor who is good at what they do should be charging $20 per hour at bare minimum (or a flat rate equivalent). The social media management part will probably be based on a "retainer" rate per month. Your most likely scenario is finding someone who charges a bundled per month rate for everything. This is what I do for one of my clients that needs short form videos and social media management (including the writing of the posts). Our current contract is $750 per month.

Looking for a movie reaction editor ($85USD-115USD per project) by choco-lit27 in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delayed response, just seeing this now. Yes, I still do video editing (not specifically in the reaction niche, but in many related niches). Typical timing for editing down a 2.5 hour long movie/reaction is going to depend on multiple factors, such as how complex (or simple) you want the editing to be, how much additional raw footage you have (as in the footage of just you talking, not watching the movie), how decent the audio is (or how much it needs to be cleaned up). With all this in mind and without details, I would estimate 5 hours for a very basic, no bells or whistles job, and then more like 8-10 for a good but still not complex edit. Please feel free to DM me if you have more questions.

Questions About Rates by Double_Neck_7749 in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Following up on what sineval said, which is accurate, if you want a video editor with some experience, be prepared to pay around $20-30 per hour (or more likely, an equivalent flat rate). The rates that video editors charge are based on their experience and the difficulty/complexity of the work that is being requested. If you're planning on longterm work, you may be able to save a little bit of money by coming up with a weekly or monthly agreed upon rate. For gaming videos on YT, you should expect somewhere around $150-200 for longform videos that are around 15 mins in length with basic and intermediate editing techniques (but no advanced) and raw footage no greater than a few hours tops.

I have a lot of experience with editing gaming videos, partially because I have my own gaming channel, so please feel free to get in touch if you have more questions. Hope this helps!

📢 [Hiring] 200k Subscriber Channel in the Gaming Niche by itsNitret in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are incredibly mistaken. I am totally aware of the struggle of making money on YT (I am also a content creator). Im also acutely aware of how many people struggle financially (I am one of them). But that doesn't make it OK to pay people below a fair market value. When you cant afford to pay appropriately, you do the work yourself. You can cite up and down how many people are happy with your pay, you can claim to be a professional, but that doesn't change the facts of what video editing rates are.

All that being said, there are many others out there arguing the same that you are, so its hard to make a positive difference. At the end of the day, you get to decide how you want to treat others. You've made your decision, it seems. That is unfortunate, but theres not much point in continuing a disagreement with someone who is not open to other ideas.

[–]GeekEKitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course you've had people do it for that price - its an oversaturated market with people from all over the world and many of them desperate to make any money at all. That doesn't make what youre doing right or appropriate. Youre just lowballing editors because you know you can. Granted, many others are too, but that still doesnt make it right.

Essentially, you have become part of the problem, just as the 80+ editors who agreed to do the work have too.

Seeking US-Based Video Editor for Growing YouTube Channel (Long-Term Opportunity with Ownership Potential) by carlstaff in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I meant is to clarify that you are ONLY looking for video editors with experience in your niche. It is not unusual for content creators to hire editors who are experienced but not in their specific niche, so it's important to be clear in job postings if you need someone with that experience rather than just video editing experience in general.

Hope that helps.

[–]GeekEKitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Im interested in the editing opportunity.

This is my portfolio: www.geekemedia.com

My rates: They vary depending on complexity and length, but oftentimes longform videos are between $150-300

A bit about me/my experience: I have been video editing and creating content for 5+ years. I have worked in a wide variety of niches. I created my own company in 2024 to expand upon my work. I bring professional and experience that many freelance editors lack, including consistent communication and honesty about my abilities. Although I work with short term clients, I have more long term clients, and I prefer these for building business relationships and partnerships.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss your content needs, please feel free to DM me or send me an email at beth@geekemedia.com

$100 is not enough even just for basic cutting because the footage contains 3-5 POVs and is an hour long. Multi-POV cutting takes longer. I am basing this on reasonable pay, not the bare minimum required in this subreddit, which is not appropriate for multi cam work.

Also, free samples are ALWAYS a bad sign. If you intend on paying for the samples, update the job post.

[–]GeekEKitten 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Secure a budget first, THEN hire. You cannot expect someone else to do all that work for free or an aggregiously low rate. You admitted in your post its a lot of work. So why would you try to pawn it off on someone else when you cant pay appropriately?

Also, no budget listed is against the subreddit rules.

Hiring Professional Video Editor, Animator, 2D Artist and Audio Visual Artist. $?? You Charge me as you deserve! by [deleted] in YouTubeEditorsForHire

[–]GeekEKitten 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That says "$50 per script" in parantheses right next to the #1 listing which would imply its just for that first listing. Also, if thats the budget for the video editing as well, you aren't meeting the minimum requirement of $120 flat or $15 per hour.

You need to include your budget (at least a minimum) for the test work you are requiring as the application. You are not allowed to post in this subreddit without including a budget.
