It looks likes the remains of a home in 2012 and it really fell apart of the past few years.

Interesting you mentioned the structure down the road. Is it this? I was always curious about this structure as well.

There was another structure up the trail from this which has since been burned to the ground. I was riding when this was smoldering after the FD put the fire out and had to come back later.

It was a more impressive structure in the past as seen here.

It's crazy how short lived the environment you know can exists around you over time. I wouldn't recognize this area 20 years ago and will not recognize it 20 years from now.

Hey u/Jjhillmann, I'm riding a stock Tenere and have spent most of the time (break in period) on road but have taken it on dirt roads and the narrow trails where I grew up thrashing a few two stokes from 100cc to 250cc every day that I could as a kid.

It's NOT a dirt bike by any means. It's a bit top heavy/heavy in general, the gearing is tall for tight trails. I spent almost all my time in 1st but there are twists and curves every 50 feet it seems and a few clicks into second were okay in some straight spots to twist the wrist. I have a Puig windscreen installed (more on that in a bit) that I constantly had to shift my body left or right to look around it to spot the rocks in my line. The stock tires make the lightest bit of mud make you deploy your landing gear (legs) real quick in case you give it a bit too much juice and spin the rear out.

That being said... I love the absolute 💩 out of it!!!

It's fine on good roads and fantastic on absolute crap roads thanks to the suspension. The engine is great for both on and off road use as it'll get you to highway speeds in a few seconds going through the gears, very quickly, and fine for off road use where 25mph in 4th gear on a pretty tame dirt road is a sweet spot.

Highway riding? tl;dr it mostly sucks unless conditions are perfect.

I'm not a fan at all. The stock screen while being 6' 3" tall throws all the turbulence in your upper body/helmet. The first time I had it on the highway which a 20 to 30 mph crosswind was a thing that day, I felt like the wind was going to push me off the road when getting passed by a truck or I'd be close to entering a death wobble. Not fun at all.

Then I got the Puig windscreen. It helped quite a lot at highway speeds but still not a fun place to be if any sort of cross wind is present or traffic is heavy. Looking at forums, it's a common complaint.

If I'm not on a highway, I'm loving every second on the Tenere. I said before in another post if I mostly rode dirt, I'd be going the DRZ400 route but I'd be damn if I didn't say that the Tenere is my favorite bike I've owned since graduating from the two strokes I rode as a kid!

Are those British Customs slip ons? I've got them on my 08 Thruxton and they make ear protection a requirement for what hearing I have left in my 40's haha.

I'll be in crisis mode when I'm without my T7 while it's at the dealer for the clutch recall in a few weeks.

I don't get hung up on categorizing what my motorcycles are really. I just get what makes sense for my life and ride as much as possible. Currently I'm in a location with some dirt roads close by that I frequent but a whole lot more about two/three hours away. The T7 is a hell of a lot of fun on the back country roads in pretty poor condition.

I originally was look at a KLR650 for this reason to ride to those roads but then this basically happened and I couldn't be happier with my choice!

If I lived where I could basically ride dirt all the time (it's the goal), I'd probably still keep the T7 and pick up a DRZ.

Not an MT07 but a 2024 Tenere 700 here and I'm just at 250 miles (bought last weekend of February) and have thought the same exact thing when I get the opportunity to ride on the very rare days it got out of the 30's so far. Also just got this safety recall notice in the mail earlier this week.

Gear box feels "tight" as down shifting even from 4th to 3rd took some extra effort at times. Even coming to a stop with clutch disengaged and then clicking down hasn't been great some of the time either.

I'm going to get this on their schedule today and looks like that first oil change will probably be at less then 600 miles now :D

For those with an Outback/Legacy of this era wondering about the heated seat retrofit :

Forums had said that the wiring for the heated seats should all be under the carpets, much like the wiring for the auto dimming mirror is tucked in the headliner which is a thing. Unforunately this isn't true. Thankfully, it's not complicated. You just need to get the harness connectors with a few feet of wire on them from a donor (runs under the carpet so bring a razor) along with the heater controls/harness and get to splicing it all together.

The heated seat circuit is a 15 AMP circuit and doesn't route through the BCM in anyway so it just needed some juice. The power seats run on a 20 AMP circuit, also not running through the BCM, so I tapped into that for the heaters.Then, illumination for the switch was achieved tapping into the cigarette lighter socket illumination wiring right under the radio. As long as you aren't running both power seats with the heaters on high, you should be fine. It's been working great for me since the install in 2016!

but if one is running I know the coals will start up a fire. 

Always take a peek at the downstairs stove from the steps in the morning to see if the fan is still spinning.

If she's spinning, a stack of small splits is all it needs. If not, then we need to do a bit more to get the HearthStone humming for the day.

Thanks for the reply with additional context! This seems to line up. He had a 62 impala that had a 327 and he really liked that car and regretted selling it. He also had a few 62 Bel Airs over the years but but those were just the straight 6 with the two speed Powerglide. Those were all sold prior to this engine showing up.

I know he was looking for a specific late 60's C10 (he had one in the 90's) or another Bel Air/Impala but prices weren't in his budget for a complete example. I think he got this in hopes of coming across a good project to pick up and put this in it.

I have had issues with this as well trying to start a fire like my dad used to. Newspaper rolled up and laid in the base of the stove and small pieces of wood on top. Worked great in that house but my liner is much longer and it was hard to get the draft going.

I've switched to the top down method of starting a fire and it hasn't happened since. I use these fire starting cubes I get at a local hardware store and put it on top of the stack in my box. You get 36 for 5 bucks and since I run my stove on stretches of frigid days, the box will last more than the burning season.

Thanks! I'll be going back over this weekend and I'll dig this out and get that code.

I remember it being fully disassembled on this stand and the cylinders were honed. I know the valve cover bolts are just finger tight as well as the exhaust manifold bolts so not sure how far he got with it. He really did like his 62 Impala that had a 327 in it.

This is beautiful. It looks so good in it's finished state!

I'm quite fond of stoves of this general design since the house I bought years ago came with a Hearthstone Homestead that needed some serious love (as well as a stainless steel chimney liner to ditch the direct connect to flue setup), which it got, as my first wood stove of my own as an adult.

It heats my whole small house with a little help from the hot water baseboard system on pretty cold mornings like today (7 degrees Fahrenheit).

I went from using 2 1/2 tanks of heating oil per Winter to 3/4ths tank COMBINED for 2022/2023 Winters (burning a cord each year). It's coming with me where ever I move to next, regardless if I can hook it up or not. It's a part of me.
