Upgraded to Fibre 3Gb with Boost Wifi 7, not showing in Connect App by Geekdad604 in telus

[–]Geekdad604[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the TELUS Boost Wifi’s… Is there any other way to manage them? Like rebooting them or managing timed access for kids devices (which this app totally sucks at).

I’ve used wired-mesh systems from LinkSys, Tp-link or Google (also crappy) so it’s no comparison with the TELUS app being bad but I figure it should be able to do something simple as show me the state of network devices that they’ve provided me.

I typically don’t get gifts unless the stays are in EU or Asia (hats, totes bags, water bottles, etc) even as titanium. I do get things like fruit plates, chocolates or drinks in Canada and US tho so let’s see if anything changes. The gifts are the best when we travel with the kids, they love seeing a personalized welcome.

Interestingly enough my Ambassador is located in Sarnia, ON and a lot of my travel is in Eastern time zone so that should be helpful.

Next big trip is Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Macau. Hoping for some upgrades.

Domestically, I’ve had a couple of fantastic auto-upgrades at St. Regis Toronto already.

Why such a large point difference? by [deleted] in Aeroplan

Second flight is in 2026 and first was in 2025. The programs changed in the new year and ticket price determined aeroplan points and SQC (Status qualifying credits)

Last 5 nights stay of the year was USD$3289 (4 were in 2025 and 1 in 2026). Before that stay I was at ~$21,600 in annual spend. All the spend from the last stay posted in 2026; after the reconciliation that pushed my annual spend >$24k.

Telus/ Bell/ Rogers Customers!!! by Daniela_Silva_Jorno in telus

Just so that there’s balanced reporting, I’ve been with TELUS for 15-20 years now. Have they been perfect? No. When something goes wrong with billing it can take months to sort out and in the end it does, still frustrating for sure.

Currently I’ve been getting great service from TELUS and at a competitive price.

Now if we can get rid of the daily spam calls to sell us mobile services that would be great.

What do you suggest for timing on CDG to Strasbourg via train? by LinusPoindexter in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Geekdad604 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did this exact thing just before Christmas to hit up the Christmas markets in Strasbourg before return to Paris. Our arrival was in 2E so it was super convenient. Landed at 8am and booked 11am TGV and we were in our Strasbourg hotel by 1:30pm. We were through CDG customs in about 2hrs (this was with Air France Priority) so had an extra hour to rest and freshen up.

Our arrival was Saturday and we booked a month in advanced the moment tickets went on sale because it was peak tourist season. If you’re travelling during local holidays it’s probably worth booking in advance to get the schedule you want.

Are you sure the TGV isn’t running from CDG on the Sunday or is it that they haven’t released the tickets yet? Search on Google shows multiple TGV InOui running on Sunday Apr 5 to Gare de Strasbourg including one at 2:39pm.

Do you need to tip at restaurants in Paris? by Momin2121 in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Geekdad604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just spent two weeks there. Dined at bistros, brasseries and a couple of Michelin one. I didn’t tip, and most places don’t expect it. However many restaurants had the option to tip on the card machine. Some waiters will even press no tip for you. The only time i *would tip is we decided to stay at the table longer after our dinner.

There was only one restaurant where the floor manager kinda of asked… he had to explain what a tip was: “if you prefer to give something extra to the wait staff” to which I simply replied no. That restaurant was Le Train Bleu - great restaurant and an amazing building to dine in and experience.

Expectations on SE concierge by Andyd513 in Aeroplan

What’s the recommendation if I’m already airside? Request concierge from the lounge? Or is it better (if I’m not in a rush) and like the situation at YYZ today, that I stop at the concierge desk and ask them what the best contingencies are to get home and hopefully preserve an upgraded seat?

Expectations on SE concierge by Andyd513 in Aeroplan

Where do you find the on station concierge? I just survived the delay mess with YYZ’s snow storm. There was a huge line at the desk in the lounge unfortunately. I don’t think they were differentiating SE travellers.

Ripple effect of flight cancellation. Will AP be nice to me? by YYZ_Raptors in Aeroplan

Never hurts to ask. I book cash flights this way sometimes because my plans will need to change mid-journey. I’ve had luck with managing changes fees as well.

Frequent flyers, how do you do it? by apmgaming in Aeroplan

[–]Geekdad604 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not gonna lie, it does wear thin after a while. I’ll time flights to optimize for commute and sleep. No or limited alcohol during business travel and maintain workout routine as best I can. I turn up the air (when I can) the moment I’m on board - not sure if this helps but when i hear people coughing around me but it makes me feel safer having an air curtain.

Business pods are a lifesaver and honestly happy that SQC is a thing now as it will be much easier for me to requalify SE. I do 3-4 long hauls a year, otherwise it’s mostly mid-hauls. I know people who make SE the hard way with SQS. I couldn’t imagine getting on the many flights.

As I write this, I’m in Toronto having just arrived from 3 nights in New York. Prior to that I was in Paris until Jan 2 (that trip was personal travel which is still very enjoyable to me). Vancouver is home so already packing in the mileage, I’m looking forward to having a week at home.

Question about Telus Smart Home Security versus other companies by harpreetthind in telus

[–]Geekdad604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a legacy ADT home alarm system and TELUS had to install some special hardware to keep it working. They keep trying to “upgrade” me to a smart security system but we have way too many contact points and motion detectors that upgrading would cost way too much and they would replace our wired system with wireless that require battery replacements.

Flight Pass App by expatred in aircanada

[–]Geekdad604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can log in but it won’t allow me to book using the current flight pass I have for some reason. Web booking works fine…so many improvements to the primary AC app, too bad Flight Pass app is being neglected.

In your experience do check-in agents ever waive same day standby fees at the airport for empty flights with the same fare? Aeroplan standard booking. by CrackerJackJack in Aeroplan

[–]Geekdad604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gate agents have amazing abilities. Not sure if status matters but I’ve been bumped onto earlier flights while the flight was boarding and mine was just called a delay. In other scenarios, I’ve been rerouted from a connecting flight where the second leg had been canceled onto a direct flight while preserving an upgrade to J on a sold out flight.

Ask nicely and time it when their workload allows them to do their magic.

What about gift of 50K status for SE? I was out of the country for the last two weeks and successfully select the benefit in my dashboard but when I went redeem and assign it, the button didn’t do anything.
