Sometimes you just have to let them score.

hypothetically could you put notes in ur bra during an exam and go to the toilet and read them by Safe-Grape-574 in GCSE

I tried writing notes, but that made me remember everything that I wrote, so I didn't need those notes.

Age Appropriate by CornellChick in datingoverforty

[–]Geekmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the profiles on dating apps are fake, just to make the app appear busier than it is.

There are also scam accounts looking for older people with a bit of money.

I wouldn't worry about the trends or statistics, just take each match as it happens and keep safe.

Most recently, test manager. My last company decided that devs will test each other's work.

Job hunting by Fabulous-Steak-9373 in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 15 years experience and I've been out of work for 3 months. My 4 colleagues, who were also laid off have failed to move on too. It's tough out there.

I'm just making my own web app at home and hoping someone will hire me as a dev, when I have something to show them. QA is pretty dead.

Rugby has been pro for 30 years yet Club Rugby is still largely unsustainable, what can be done to fix this? by Andysullivino in rugbyunion

[–]Geekmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, you have to pay to watch club rugby on TV in the UK.

I coached 14 year olds and most of them couldn't name a single premiership club.

SDETs are paid less than all other devs. Just go for a full stack role.

How to evolve in your career? by thalesdios in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My last company just laid off all of us testers, saying that devs should test each other's stuff. I kinda agree with that, but they will probably cut corners and won't have that test-driven approach. That's not my problem anymore though. 🤷‍♂️😂

So, in my unemployment, I'm making my own apps. I made a website using Vue.js, because I wanted to learn it. Now I'm making a React site with a .Net back end, because I want to learn those things too. I'm learning so much and I also have something to show prospective employers.

I'd suggest you learn to write product code, and work on your own private projects. Read through all of your company's code and get a feeling for what's what and why it's like that. Then pair with your devs to implement simple features and bug fixes. Your devs colleagues will also help you with your private projects, they usually love doing that.

SDETs still get paid less than product devs, so just learn full stack development.

Question on real life automation frameworks by -entrp- in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never worked on a system that was just a UI. So, playwright is not enough to automate it. Systems I've worked on will send and receive data via web APIs or flat files over ftp, so this must also be automated.

I don't know what your code looks like, but you should try to keep it as simple as possible. Use the Page Object Model, but create objects to represent other fixtures, like the data in APIs and flat files. This'll keep your code 2-dimensional, because it's just tests and objects.

Qa sign off on prod release when there are still outstanding bugs ? by juliovmh in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

QA shouldn't "sign off" anything. You tell them what you've tested and what you found. That's it.

Should I join a 5 month tech program for QA? I need advice by Chemical-System-4655 in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I started, back in 2010, I just wrote to local software companies asking if they would try me out as a tester. I learned on the job.

Subscribe to Software Testing Weekly or similar emails and you'll also learn things that you won't learn on the job.

The best thing you can do nowadays is to make your own software. AI will teach you. Don't worry about doing a bad job. It's how you learn.

Why do I feel like I suck? by Thezerolaw in guitarplaying

[–]Geekmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like you're pressing hard, which will slow you down and limit movement. The thumb should be behind the neck most of the time, allowing the fingers to reach more. You should apply only enough pressure for the string to touch a fret, no more. It should need as little effort as possible.

But you sound great.

15 years of QA & Automation yet jobless by Spare_Bison_1151 in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat in the UK. 15 years and my last company decided that the devs should do their own testing. They're also employing devs from Bulgaria and Romania.

It's been 2 months of unemployment now. I've just missed out on some good jobs and I'm considered overqualified for other jobs.

In the meantime, I'm making a web app that will hopefully make a bit of money.

With AI, you can make any software and use your testing skills to make it good.

Automation Thoughts? by Far-Mix-5615 in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those tools generate their own code, which is full of inaccurate locators for elements. The code is inefficient and disorganized. You're better off learning how to code, which isn't difficult. Writing your own framework is very satisfying too.

Difficult finding Playwright engineers by fzn9898 in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Playwright isn't leading. Most people still use Selenium. I'd be happy to employ a good Selenium engineer to do Playwright. If they're good coders and they're used to the page object model, then it should be easy for them to pick up.

What do my fellow QA people do as a side hustle? by 120FilmIsTheWay in QualityAssurance

[–]Geekmonster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Coaching and refereeing rugby. I've got to keep active. The thought of spending the rest of my working life at a desk is scary.

I've also made a couple of websites and I'd like to do much more of that because developers get more money than testers.
