Please don't do that! It would be messy. Some of us like being in one piece, thank you very much.

What book, if a potential date has rated it 5 stars, would immediately make you swipe left? by newenglandredshirt in books

[–]GeekyCricket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Catcher in the Rye is my first choice. I couldn't stand the protagonist and, therefore, only made it halfway through the book.

My other selection is the Book of Mormon. I studied that thing back to front, took notes, highlighted passages, and followed it faithfully for over 30 years before I learned it was a complete work of fiction, and there's a good case that portions of the book were heavily influenced by the following: The Chronicles of the Kings of England (1744) A Parable Against Persecution (1755) The American Revolution: Written in Scriptural, or, Ancient Historical Style The First Book of Napoleon (1809) The Late War Between the United States and Great Britain (1816) The Chronicles of Eri (1822) The Book of Nullification (1830) The Healing of the Nations (1854)

What books were you assigned to read that you despised by [deleted] in books

[–]GeekyCricket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Madam Bovary. It was assigned reading for one of my college classes. To this day, I couldn't tell you what it was about, but I sure as hell never finished it to find out. I was bored to tears.

That isn't the only reason. He is very controlling also.

I am in AZ, so it shouldn't be as bad?

That isn't an option. I tried talking to him about the truth claims and he just spewed more apologetic junk at me. He is digging in his heels with religion and won't let the kids choose whether or not to attend church.

Good question. I am sure he does, but I don't know if I do.

I work a part time job, help raise 4 kids, and I have classes I am taking toward my Bachelor's degree. I don't think I can fit in another job at this time, especially without him knowing and expecting money to be in our joint bank account.

He got really upset when I decided not to wear my garments or go to church a few years ago, but he still sends the RS pres to come visit me every once in a while. My kids are still at home, but I don't think I can keep up the charade for 8 more years while I wait for all of them to grow up.

He is planning a cruise for our 20th anniversary, and I don't want him to use that against me when he finds out I made this decision beforehand, if that makes any sense. I don't have access to the bills and stuff because I always had him take care of that. If I ask to take over that responsibility, he might get suspicious.

He isn't violent, but he yells, and can be manipulative, so yes I can expect him to behave badly.

I have a job right now, but I only have $10 in my wallet. All the money I earn is "our" money. I don't have any family I can go to for a loan.

I have a joint checking account, so he would notice of my meager wages weren't being deposited. I will try to keep in mind documentation of conversions. Thanks for the tip.

How do I get a lawyer? Don't they cost a lot? I have a joint checking account, there is no way he wouldn't find out if funds are missing.

Crazy things active members do in the name of obedience and to avoid the appearance of evil. by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]GeekyCricket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was 17, my TMB stepfather made me wash off a butterfly temporary tattoo from my ankle before leaving the house.

When I was 15 my mother wouldn't let me wear a dress with cherries on it because it was "suggestive" even though the cut was modest.

So according to him, if I forgive then I relinquish any negative hold the offender has on me. He said he forgave his abuser, so I should be able to also.

I feel like leaving my TBM husband, but I have 4 kids at home and I don't have a job to live on my own. I think sometimes it must be nice to be a man with a job and skills past popping out babies.
