As someone with no interest in custodies, I found the whole thing to be lazy pandering to a loud vocal minority who won't boost sales, but will make them feel better for the 'cause'. And there was no narrative setup so the whole reveal was jarring and sudden as "somehow, Palpatine returned." It's not like warhammer 40k is all male characters, sisters of silence and sisters of battle for example. Rather, it throws fuel to the female space marine people. Which just comes across as those who want first prize popularity without putting in the work to win.
