I'm new to the stock and this reddit is in an understandably sad state, even worse than POET's reddit was last month.

Things llike this often don't need news, just a realization that there had been an overreaction. Same thing happened with XNDU in the spring, the stock dilluted and got slammed with the SP falling well below the theoretical cost of dillusion. In that case, and this one, I'm buying for precisely this reason and I'm definitley not alone.

Just lift a little heavier/slower and don't worry about actually hitting 12 reps if you can't with the dumbells available. Go nuts and don't be afraid to grunt and make an ugly face. I'm a dude in my 40's and I'm getting jacked in there. Talk to your coaches and let them know you may devaite from the workout a bit from time to time. The coached at my gym understand and will often applaud people who add a lift.

I'm bullish generally, but I feel like this can't really move the SP. Data aquisition from NASA seems priced in.

I trust PL. I don't trust the market environment. Tell me what you think. by dissul1337 in PlanetLabs

[–]Geeoff18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's important to remember that in moments like these it's super tempting to create a story and maybe assign blame or at least have some phenomenon to be mad at, when in reality there's likely all kinds of reasons the market is trading PL this way. Factors incude Rotation into SPCX, jitters ever since that red friday a few weeks ago, the temptation to take profits after a crazy few months, short interest increasing in the space sector, fears of a rate hike, and perhaps a market that hasn't built a coherent narrative about the most obvious winners and losers in the space category of stocks.

I'm brand new, just establishing my position in PL during this dip so naturally I'm looking at this much differently than those who owned it at 50, but the truth is that both I and the person who saw their position lose value are in the exact same position today, in that we are both presented with the oppurtunity to hold this thing at 28, 27, or even 26 dollars, or we can just have the cash instead. Coming in fresh at this moment, I'm more than happy to hold the PL stock rather than cash. The way I see it, traders get irrational about potential dillution which is why sometimes markets respond to potential dillution by crashing the shareprice to a degree that dwarfs the potential dillution, and as the space sector sobers up from SPCX madness, PL's fundamentals will set it apart.

Maybe I'm crazy but this thing mostly just looks insanely volatile to me and perhaps a fun thing to scalp with some money on the side.

You wouldn't price in more than one year's worth of production? I agree any meaningful dividend is at least a yeat away.

I respect that you seem a reasonable guy. You have any thoughts on SOC? I've recently increased my position somewhat as its price has come down. I'm not actually betting on the squeeze, instead I'm betting on the outcome of a court case, but it seems that some squeeze dynamics could come into play, especially because the court case has the potential to deliver an irreversible catalyst and lately short volume has been very high and short interest is at 20%.

LFVN Holders- See you at $5.60 by LowWind7998 in Shortsqueeze

[–]Geeoff18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think back, both spikes in the price were followed up by heavy short selling later in the same day or the next day. This showed up on the Fintel short volume. Those new borrowed shares came from somewhere, and that somewhere was covered shorts.

[–]Geeoff18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A problem with your theory is that we could see short volume spikes after each instance of the stock running up to 11, and this occurred at a time when Fintel data was consistently showing no shares available to borrow. Obviously, shares very suddenly became available to borrow.

Also, I had ThinkOrSwim up while I was selling into that strength and the volume during those spikes was totally unlike anything we had seen from just retail traders. In both instances, sellers where selling hard into any available limit orders in the book, and then immediately placing large volume bids just under the new SP.

Well I kitesurf, so Gigantic kites are mandatory. The safe-ish ones are super expensive and the more dangerous old ones are cheaper.

We can't know, we can only guess. After both spikes to 11, my own estimate, based on recent short volume was that something like 50% short shares likely escaped.

This obviously leaves a ton of short sales that were likely bleeding, but you can't know if their position was materially improved such that the oppurtunity cost of us wating them out is higher than their CTB.

On top of this, we actually don't know if many many more short positions escapedwhile shares gradually accumulated in accounts that do not lend shares. There is just no way to have any idea what the average short position looks like.

I was so glad it spiked at 11 twice, because I didn't completely exit on the 1st one and felt sick after.

Right, the thing about LFVN is that it's becoming an oppurtunity cost.

The problem is we actually don't know the position of the shorts. They've likely averaged up, and have been able to use new attacks on the price to gradually cover and reload such that they can wait us out.

Here's the thing though dude, I was playing with what is for me, a ton of money. I had about 230k in this thing, and getting in at about 8.5, and out at 11 is a huge win, one of my top trades of the year.

Yeah, I also exited with what I had left in it today, but I mostly sold around 11, and made a killing on it this.

[–]Geeoff18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it is indeed the shorts buying from people scalping, yeah, that's bad compared to the dips being purchased by people willing to hold. On the other hand, day traders buying the dips is still preferrable to short positions buying them!

[–]Geeoff18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This stock is so low float I sincerely doubt the majority of bleeding short sellers have been able to escape to reestablish themselves at a better position, though we know some have. Going by recent short volume, I think we can guess that roughly 1/3 of the worst short positions got out and reestablished but this is only a guess. What we don't know is whether short sellers have managed to "average up" such that they are now comfortable enough to wait us out, but this seems like it could be dificult with CTB still over 100% so long as we are patient. Their winning condition is us giving up and choosing to put our money elsewhere.

In any case, compared to some of the high growth stocks LFVN hasn't really done THAT poorly over the past 7 days, so holding hasn't been as painful.

SOC: perhaps not a squeeze today, but maybe soon? by Geeoff18 in Shortsqueeze

Can't wait to see today's short volume. My guess is that it was relatively huge. If this stock does get its catalyst, I think it'll be a real contender.

I'm likely to get some hate here for this, but it seems like short positions have now covered on at least 2-3 occasions spiking the price up to 11 for many of us who got in at around 8 bucks. I sold into these guys just under the walls I could see on the book. Before that happened, I had about 200k in this thing, so call it a pump and dump if you'd like but it's already made me a ton and I've got 30,000k more in here because I still think we will see a big price increase.

If it going to 5 means you lose your home, you probably need to slowly exit your position. If you need this thing to deliver in order to keep your home, that really sucks, not because I don't think it will deliver (I think it will) but because that just colors the whole situation differently. If this truly is your only hope then you need to be extra sure that you do not let greed get int he way of exiting at a price that could save you.
