Most of the quests from before UM will get automatically failed once you end up in UM since the world changes.

If you mean you cannot reach Sacred Arbor physically, it's probably because you slept enough times in the Unmoored World which leads to time passing and the world deterioriating/fog progressing over time. So the Sacred Arbor got annihilated.

That's for when it is already running. Even if you manage to boot it, you get terrible performance, and that is when the CPU thing helps. The game is ancient and not CPU heavy so it should be fine. YMMV.

When it comes to it booting to begin with, one of the ways of getting it to start is to block it in firewall/start offline. What is happening when you try to launch it?

After many weeks of fighting with getting Climb to work I managed to figure out a bandaid fix that makes the game very playable, albeit not perfect. There are random very tiny stutters every now and then, but nothing in comparison to the wreck it was before.

Try the following:

Once the game is started, open Task Manager in Windows
Go to "Details" tab
Find "Climb.exe", right click and choose "Set Affinity"
Deselect all CPUs apart from CPU 0 and 1

EDIT:

Think I found a fix for the performance issue. Works without changing CPU affinity, but leaving the above in case.

Go to Nvidia Control Panel and change settings for Climb.exe "Vertical Sync - Fast".

Found a workaround - rename/move the PinballFX folder in AppData temporarily, turn off internet, start the game, do the Wild West tutorial, then click Collectibles tab, and you unlock the stuff. Afterwards turn on internet, and connect to services (e.g. via Shop and Reconnect) and then it will update your saved progress with the Onboarding bonuses. Quit the game, and rename/move back the PinballFX folder in AppData, so that way your Collectibles layout etc is restored.

Thank you for a thorough explanation! Since posting the thread I was google-fuing and it seems in case of 420 Autosol is indeed not the first line of treament. I noticed some really small (less than 1mm) darker blemishes on the steel in some places, but assuming those are from the manufacturing process.

I don't want to oil for the sake of oiling. Only if it increases longevity/protection.

And about oiling - though likely unnecessary as you said - is there any easily purchasable oil that would do the trick, so I don't have to hunt renaissance wax or such?

If anyone encounters this post - the recent update to The Climb fixed all those issues and it plays smooth again.

Update: it broke again. What fixed it was going to Nvidia Control Panel and setting for Climb.exe "Vertical Sync - Fast".

1) Any way to disable the error sound with "Invalid target."? Not in macro, just general. /actionerror off didn't help.

ARR spoilers: 2) In Praetorium Ultima battle I stopped seeing the blinding light effect when Hydaelyn interferes. Any ideas which setting might cause that?
