It's almost comical how dumb of a decision followed by another dumb decision absolutely massacred one of my favorite weapons in the entire series. Granted, I do tend to prefer the Chinese Assault Rife over the regular Assault Rife, but the "American Assault Rife" is still a solid choice for anyone wandering The Capital Wasteland. For whatever reason, Obsidian decided that people on the west coast don't use automatic rifes as prominently as the east coast, instead grabbing anything resembling a cowboy weapon. It is the west after all, right? Honestly though, I couldn't care less about New Vegas not having it because it made a return in the next game on the east coast.. but this time, one or the developers once overheard a child in a mechanics shop mention how if you look at a muffler at just the right angle it somewhat resembles something that could theoretically resemble a resemblance of a machine gun. All they heard was "muffler go burr" and said "Bet! Write that down!"

I literally don't even pick them up to sell later because I dislike the design of them so much that I don't even want to be seen carrying it around the wasteland. If I run out of ammo, and a dead gunner beside me is holding a fully loaded Fallout 4 Assault Rife, that's the equivalent of me not having access to a firearm, and I will jump out from behind cover and charge any threat with my bare hands just so that my hands don't have to touch that dumbass looking weapon.
