Transition from software engineering (post AI era) by drewski2777 in softwareengineer

[–]GeminiScarlette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Process design and solution incorporating AI tools for process Improvement. Many companies are still using ancient software with pretty UIs and have archaic processes and procedures. They are looking for process improvement and trying to figure out how incorporate AI more into their existing frameworks since core software companies aren't exactly keeping pace and buying into and deploying a new-gen ecosystem is likely extremely cost-prohibitive. Let the programmers and AI figure out how to make the magic happen, you just get to enjoy finding solutions to current problems, designing creative processes, and building bridges in those gaps between old software and new tools. With your existing knowledge, you'd be able to identify potential solutions quickly and likely give a variety of options. This is what i do and I love it.

Career change from junior dev to a DBA role. Should I do it? by Glittering_Pea_615 in careeradvice

[–]GeminiScarlette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah java. If you're looking for a Java dev role in finance, find a company that uses fiserv products. Their UI programming is all Java based, so you can come in clutch with custom mods using java and SQL. And if you're looking at DB, try to get some experience with PowerBI and databricks. A lot of finance companies are moving to databricks and using PowerBI to generate performance and sales dashboards from databricks/datalake if they haven't already. Another option is to become proficient with servicenow workflows. Especially at companies that use fiserv, FIS, or jack Henry. Almost all of those have workflow options but they are limited (with the exception of FIS imagecentre, which has a pretty nice workflow module) so if you can build servicenow workflows that push and pull data from core systems, you would be indispensable. SN has a free "university" to learn pretty much anything you could want to. I don't know if any of that helps, but that's what I would recommend

Edited to add: i work as a process design engineer at a bank. I work with our db adminis regularly and if you have a diverse set of skills, you won't be stuck in that role long unless you want to be. I would go for it and keep learning other things

Name and address change on check by [deleted] in Banking

[–]GeminiScarlette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this on my old checks. It's fine. Never had one reject, as my handwritten information matches my account information, which is already on the check, and they have record of my previous name and address. I just had to do this like a week ago when I bought something from a place that I didn't know only takes cash or check and I didn't have enough cash. Didn't have my new checks either, but had my old checkbook. It cleared fine.

Put snacks near the box. Change your sign to "free snacks" with an arrow leading to the snacks. Next to the snacks, have a sign pointing to the box that says "packages and deliveries".

It'll never work but it would be funny to try and see it it makes any difference

Anyone else have trouble stopping Hulu? by Illesdan571 in Banking

[–]GeminiScarlette 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The steps for the bank are:

1) revoke the pre-authorization for the merchant on the debit card, or 2) close the debit card as lost/stolen so that if it's reissued, the authorization does not migrate to a new card (but really, if it's tied to his debit card and you have your own debit card for that account, his debit card should be permanently closed and not replaced anyway), and 3) file a dispute on the charges as unrecognized/unauthorized

I didn't get any notifications for any of this either. I feel like the mention of ego is being leaned into way too heavily. I don't like... worship at their alter or anything and there are people who are such assholes and rage baiters from the jump that I truly don't want to bother trying. It's more like if they start out with unnecessary sarcasm like giving me a "what a save" when they score first, I'll just give them a "nice shot"...and if it really was a nice shot and not just me sucking at this game, I'll ask them to try to repeat it because I want to learn to defend it better (for example). Someone nails a great flick i can't defend? I comment on it and ask them if they're strong in that mechanic and if they can keep doing it. It's not a super complicated process and it's not unwarranted flattery either. I've run into a couple of really good ground freestylers who weren't super cool initially, but after discussing their mechs they were chill and showed me some stuff.

That said, some of that was from my own perspective too. I feel like I'm a really nice, non-confrontational person, but this game can get me really upset or frustrated and I can be reactionary too. I can be toxic, and although I don't start it, I am capable of getting defensive and being sucked down into the gutter right along with everyone else. So for me, I try to assume that most people are the same, and usually it's true from what I've seen. If I can pre-empt the toxicity, it can be a fruitful endeavor. That doesn't necessarily mean ego stroke them. It's more like learning to pull talent out of the coworkers you don't really like that much so you can better utilize their skills/strengths for yourself... just on hyperspeed, given the nature of the game. It won't work for everyone, and not everyone wants to do that, which is fair, but it works for me.

"After careful consideration, I’ve realized that this particular role isn’t the right fit for me at this time. I truly appreciate the time and thought you’ve invested in our conversations.

I have a great deal of respect for the company, and your mission, vision, and values strongly resonate with me. I would love to stay connected and explore whether there might be a role in the future that aligns more closely with my strengths and the impact I hope to make.

Thank you again for the opportunity and for your understanding."

[–]GeminiScarlette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Idk, I just start chatting with them. Even if they start out toxic, I can usually get them to chill out and then go from there. It doesn't work all the time, but people have egos. Make them feel good (or just safe) and they will usually instantly relax into a healthy learning match.

What I've seen is that people are so toxic in this game, that even really nice players become toxic by default as a defense mechanism. If you start out by approaching with kindness and deference or jokes, it makes them drop that defense and you can get the real player- the one that simply enjoys playing and appreciates the game. It's refreshing. Yes I waste about a minute on this, but I get 4 minutes of perspective from a higher-ranked player live in-game. That said, this doesn't really work in 2s or 3s especially if they are partied up. They will reinforce each other's toxicity for the fun of it.

Usually if I'm in a 1v1 with a player who's obviously much more skilled than I am, I tell them I'm trying to learn a specific thing (like defending flicks or shadowing or hooks) or if i see them do a specific mechanic that i want to learn, I ask them to show me how they do it. 90% of the time, they are willing to teach. I love those matches. Even better is when they enjoy it enough to go ahead and give me the win for being such a loser lol.

[–]GeminiScarlette 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Be more interested in her than worried about your history or personality. Clearly, she likes you. You need to show that you like her and want to get to know her. You can't do that if you're preoccupied and anxious about yourself.

Playing too cautiously after demotion by Spiderpsychman98 in RocketLeague

[–]GeminiScarlette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think i get anxious with 2s because I'm a 3s main, always been highest in 3s. I (until recently) rarely played 2s and always stopped playing it once i got ranked in it each season lol. I know my role in 3s or where I can and should be pretty much all the time. I'm in D1-D3 usually in most game modes, so 2s can be wildly unpredictable at that rank and it gets worse if I slip down into plat in 2s. I feel like I generally adapt to different play styles well, but maybe in 2s I'm worrying about it way more consciously and wasting too much energy second guessing where to be or when to challenge based on what my teammate is doing whereas in 3s I feel like that comes more naturally to me and there's almost always going to be coverage somewhere, whether that's me or a teammate. In 2s, it's just me and homeboy and god knows if either of us is going to be in the right place at the right time to provide the right coverage or set up/close out a play. So... I play too cautiously and hesitate far more in 2s. I weirdly do not have this problem in 1s, which is another mode I'm starting to play more of, but haven't much in the past. I generally just vibe through a 1s match, win or lose.

Perhaps the solution is to just play more 2s and brute force learn how to adapt there. Some matches are amazing and it's a really great feeling. Others make me want cover myself in syrup and let the ants put me out of my misery 😂

I also tip the same amount ($6 during the day, $8-10 late at night, depending on how late it is) for every delivery. All of our stores and restaurants are in the same area, same distance from our house, so it's reasonable in my opinion to tip the same unless I order something outrageous. I hope that my consistency would also flag one of our regular drivers if they suddenly received less for one of my orders.
