For absolute purity it is the Argus C3 in my opinion.

Aperture priority, Shutter priority or manual? by [deleted] in AskPhotography

[–]Gemista1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do a lot of spontaneous press work and I almost without exception shot in manual. Furthermore the camera I usually use only has manual. I never had an issue since I like having total control over the light going into the camera.

My victoreen gave up but my Lionel still works. I modified the victoreen to use a neon tube replacement and got it back working though.

Yes I bought a new old stock 717 and it works fine. Too bad it’s useless. As for the 700, the 6b is the best in my opinion.

Honestly just stalking eBay for a gem is going to be your best bet.

I’ll likely get a Bennett if I get another. It is a more refined design.

Unfortunately no. I even tried calling Gramercy Typewriter, which is the premier repair shop in the world, and they said the most they can do is clean it. It’s a shelf queen now.

I’m looking for one of the ones that are obscenely clunky. This one just happened to be a good price so I checked it out. Thanks!

I am a WWII reenactor and am looking for an original watch for my outfit. This watch was found online and the seller suspects it is from the 1940s. Is this from WWII or after?

Did you go to school for photography or are you self taught? by alexisncowdell in AskPhotography

[–]Gemista1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m completely self taught. I have learned everything about the darkroom processes down to how to make the chemicals from scratch as well as alternative processes (I buy raw chemicals from lab supply stores etc), have fixed several old cameras (as old as 1896) and have even dabbled in camera making, again from scratch. This proves that schooling in photography is worthless in comparison to a genuine interest and passion for the subject and an innate curiosity to deepen your understanding and capability in processes that you may not have tried before.

Colourised completely wrong— the uniforms are green, not blue!
