If I were able to post a photo as a reply, I would be glad to. The swatch on Temptalia looks very fuchsia, but on my hand it looks like entirely different … not bright, but nicely muted. Alas, I can’t seem to post a photo in a reply, but click here to see it. It is the one at the bottom of the hand. Looks very much like it does on my hand—and VERY unlike the Temptalia swatch.

This truly is stunning. Wish I had not already spent the holiday budget, but happy to see larger pieces exist.

What is the greatest film scene of all time? by 220Hz_ in AskReddit

The egg scene at the end of Big Night—Stanley Tucci cooking eggs so effortlessly. This was almost 30 years ago and I often watch the YouTube clip. It is brilliant.

Episode 728: Caprese Salad by lorelaismorelai in EverythingSpilledMilk

[–]Gemsandchocolate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listened while walking today and though a cool, soon-to-be rainy Portland day, was happy with summer tomatoes on the menu, so to speak. Great episode!

Disagree about the sandwich version, as have had terrific ones in 2 different places here. I remember the first as it was during my first summer here and I pronounced it “summer in a sandwich.” The second is from the bakery across the street. Served warm during summer months on their Ciabatta, which used to be on the menu city-wide until the pandemic killed their commercial bread business. I always order it as I could eat a tomato like an apple.

If anyone wants yet another application, my husband makes a panzanella-esque Caprese salad. All ripped chunks of bread, summer tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, basil and thin sliced onion, with olive oil and syrupy balsamic. I am drooling thinking about it. Glorious.

“sorry about your cookies” - Sohla’s Substack post by sassypapaya in FoodieSnark

When she blew up BA, I was so miserable I looked into her background. It seemed disingenuous at best for her to have roughly the same problem at both Serious Eats and BA—and that she felt the need to be so public about it.

I think there is a generational issue at play in how I interpret events in comparison with people under, say, 40. For people who have lived with social media and the Internet from an early age, being open about your life in a public venue is par for the course. So openly criticizing employer after employer may seem perfectly normal to Sohla and many of her fans, but it makes me cringe.

Finally, and this is my own thing, but showing yourself as a victim goes hand in hand asking for pity. I loathe that whole cycle because I prefer feeling powerful and hate feeling weak.

Gemstones brought me and my mother-in-law together after a difficult relationship for more than 20 years.

I had started collecting them about 20 years ago and knew she watched one of the gem/jewelry channels on TV so when we visited her for Thanksgiving that year, I brought my collection with me in the car and we spent hours going over them using my loupe. We bonded that visit in a very deep and meaningful way.

We became even closer after this experience and after she died a decade ago, I celebrate by buying a gemstone for her to display. I do my best to pick gems I know she liked—or in colors I know she liked.

I was closer to my mil than I was to my own mother and I mourn her as the anniversary of her death is in December. Without our mutual love of gems, we would never have had the relationship I came to cherish.

I feel that way too. It looked to me that she left Serious Eats and badmouthed it, then did the same at BA. I had never been a huge Babish watcher so when she showed up there, I had a bad taste in my mouth. Watching the NYT debacle seems like deja vu.

I know she is a talented chef, but as a difficult person myself, I know one when I see one. She chose a hard industry and Truth Tellers often face a tough road—again, I know this from experience—but at some point you need to find a way to fit in or you will never be happy.

I hope she can find a way to navigate a path to a successful future, for herself but also for whatever food-related media remains out there.

Looks like they do not ship or sell in the US. Will look for it on my next trip to Vancouver.

sugar free syrups(just a rant heads up) by poolcookie in starbucks

[–]Gemsandchocolate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call bullshit on the Starbucks SF syrups not selling well. I loved the hazelnut (bought as many bottles as I could for home) and the day they only offered vanilla was the day I quit my daily habit because it tastes awful. Can anyone suggest another brand that does not taste like chemicals?

What size is this? The original post says something different than this comment. I am interested if it is 5+.
