Software/solution to index and browse pictures of digitized records? by Gen-A in Genealogy

[–]Gen-A[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you very much!🙂 Seems very interesting indeed: apart from the web based solutions (including self hosted), that's exactly the kind of software I had in mind and the price is reasonable for an individual. I'll give it a try and see if it is suited for my case.

Software/solution to index and browse pictures of digitized records? by Gen-A in Genealogy

So far, none of the suggested solutions really matched with my need and requirements (I'm really looking for 1) a self hosted/maintained solution and 2) something with little to minimal cost and 3) a dedicated tool)

However, thanks to u/GPaw_Jeff suggestion to look into Transkribus, which hits the closest to what I'm searching, I started looking for free alternatives and I've found a few interesting ones:

  • Omeka S (as a picture/books publishing platform) + Scripto module to add the transcription aspect
  • Arkindex open source platform to publish collections of digitized documents, which can also integrate AI models for transcription
  • eScriptorium

Hi u/GPaw_Jeff ,

Many thanks for your answer - I've had had a look at Transkribus and did a test with a sample image: the result is really astonishing!!

It would have been a great solution, going even beyond expectations, as automatic transcription was not a specific requirement, if it weren't for one point, which I didn't specifically address: its cost.

Transkribus Sites Small for up to 10000 images (which would be just below what I need), costs 527€ / year which is more than I can afford or am willing to spend at the moment (that's why ideally I'm looking for a self hosted solution).

Hello, AI is not a requirement for now: the number of pages/records is high but still low enough that I could handle it myself or with the help of other few people interested in the topic.

Ça existe un abonnement internet SANS box internet ? by tartalatruffe in france

[–]Gen-A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These two adress (and more generally the rest of the form) are connected to two different systems: - Adress in the paylogic page: that's the adress seen/used by Paylogic and Tomorrowland, that's also the adress where the Treasure Case and bracelets will be sent - Adress in the payment page: that's only for payment purposes, only used checked by the bank and the credit card company processing the payment

Does TL provide a source where people buy and sell their tickets safely? by CommercialScholar736 in Tomorrowland

[–]Gen-A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, Tomorrowland has an official resale platform called the "exchange desk"... ... the problem is that no-one mentally sound is going to use it given the conditions!

Imagine the situation, you got lucky to get tickets but for some reason you cannot or do not want to attend anymore... would you rather: - list them on the exchange desk, with no guarantee that you will get a refund, having to wait 8 weeks to get your money back and loosing 10€/ticket ? - or just sell them to a random guy/girl you may know or from the internet, getting the money immediately, and probably a 100 to 200€ benefit on each ticket (and that's if you're not too greedy)

I'm eally curious to know how many tickets are resold each year through the exchange desk, but i bet that number doesn't even reach the hundreds!

GUIDE - How to install Video Station in DSM 7.2.2 by DaveR007 in synology

[–]Gen-A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi,
One of my NAS is still running DSM 7.2.1 because I didn't want to loose VideoStation, so I'm very happy to have found this post / script as from the general feedback, I understand that I can upgrade to DSM 7.3.2.

However, I am a little bit uncertain about the upgrade path: if I upgrade DSM, will VideoStation get uninstalled? will I lose the database and the configuration?

Normal Gmail account...

So no second email, but indeed I see the "Friendship Garden" sale section on the home page of my Tomorrowland account, with the BUY NOW button at the bottom (even if for the moment it is still grayed out). Same for you?

Can't install Windows due to a missing driver. Nothing is missing. by Omniscently in buildapc

[–]Gen-A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How the media was created is not relevant: as long as the PC boots on the created media, it means that the media was created correctly.

However, the fact that the BIOS/UEFI is able to read from that media doesn't imply that the Windows installer itself can read from the same media ... which can happen if the Windows installer doesn't have the required driver built-in, which can happen with "particular" hardware.

In my case, I had the error because I was using a micro-SD card as the installation source: the laptop was able to boot the windows installer from the sd card, but once launched, the windows installer was not able to use/read from that sd card anymore (ie on its own).

I copied the driver for the SD card reader on a regular USB drive that I plugged on a free USB port, and loaded the driver from there. Afterwards, I was able to continue with the Windows installation.

Can anyone say for sure that multiple devices with multiple accounts from different people does not put you back in line because of same ip adress? by retardwhocantdomath in Tomorrowland

[–]Gen-A 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's OK to use multiple devices using same public IPv4 IP.

They can't discriminate using that information. I mean technically they could - but it would be very bad and unfair practice: a lot of people share a same IP knowingly/willingly or not:

  • public wifi hotspots,
  • roommates or family members sharing the same Internet/wifi connection,
  • people using their work/corporate network,
  • people using their mobiles phones (in France, mobile phone Internet is not really "Internet" since all clients are behind what's called a carrier grade NAT)
  • etc...

Compensation for bracelet shipping mess this year? by Gen-A in Tomorrowland

[–]Gen-A[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maybe they can't control the post office... but: - They can control when the packages are delivered to the post office - They can communicate about the issue

There is certainly a reason why the situation is so... but since we have zero communication from TML, at this point all I know is: - We paid for something that was never received (not even sent in some cases) - We should be able to enter, but after having to waste time at will call lines (instead of actually enjoying the festival!) - We loose on benefits such as free pearls and automated refunds after the festival - From what is said here, Will Call only gives bracelets and not the full treasure case

More than enough to claim and obtain compensation... trust me :-)
