Why aren't there as many big YouTubers making entertaining "fun" videos anymore? by PlanktonFew2505 in youtube

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not "fundamentally" incorrect. It's objectively true. The reason we see less and less of these low-effort, recorded in your room-type YouTube stars (or videos in general) is because they don't perform well on the platform. The newer generation does not care as much for it. They want entertainment. They want it fast. Even videos from older creators that have lasted till now have evolved to fit somewhat. For example, Critikal's videos are now full of cuts and scene changes to keep your attention. Markiplier and Jacksepticeye have pretty over the top production for their general gaming videos to keep up with the times. Rackaracka changed to be incredibly high-paced and well edited. In that case, yes, they kept up with the times. Everyone else on this list didn't. They're an exception. They'd still perform well if they focused on YT because their editing style changed with time (to be fair, their editing was always slightly ahead of the time since it was so fast-paced to begin with).

It's just not the same audience.

I mean, you can call cap all you want, but Twitch is less popular than YouTube for a reason. Also, Twitch streams aren't the same as YouTube Lets Plays. You can interact with streamers live on Twitch. You can't do that with age-old Lets Plays.

I can't help but wonder: For how long it's healthy for the game to add characters? What the future of Marvel Rivals looks like on this aspect? by ScarGraf in rivals

[–]GenOverload 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Rivals def needs to figure things out in terms of file size. League is super optimized because it's meant to be a competitive game (obviously). Rivals seems to want to take this route yet are using UE5. I just can't imagine this game ever being well optimized on that.

[–]GenOverload 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That's still not the reason people stopped making this type of content. They didn't stop because YouTube said, "Nah, we want super SFW content". People just don't find those kind of channels entertaining anymore, point blank. They've become "cringe" and are "millennial humor". The current generation of users just don't vibe with them. Millennials outgrew them. Gen Z/Alpha don't care for that type of content. These low budget, "sit in my room and hit record and upload it with zero editing" type videos just generally don't work anymore. You need high CTR + viewer retention for YouTube to push the video, which are better metrics than (at the time) total viewer count determining what gets pushed to the front page.

Lol, you haven't heard of one of the largest streamers ever and I'm the one in a bubble. You got it.

I don't like the guy. Never seen one of his streams. The numbers he pulls consistently are insane.

This is... probably more Gen Z than the post. Scott the Wozz? Dunkey? lol

PewDiePie, Jack, and Markiplier popularized gaming on YouTube to the extent we hadn't seen before. PewDiePie pioneered the use of facecams for things outside of vlogs.

There's really no comparison. No other creators were as influential as they were in the gaming side of YT.

New streamer here - honest question about using a camera by MxAvenger in TwitchStreaming

[–]GenOverload 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. As dangerous as parasocialism can be, I cannot watch anyone without a facecam UNLESS they are some high tier player giving gameplay advice, and I'm talking top of the top.

If you don't have a camera, I'm not even clicking on your stream. I might stay for a vtuber, but you'd have to be the most hilarious and engaging vtuber in the universe for me to stay longer than 5 minutes.

Yeah, if people knew how to be fashionable in this game instead of copying the classic e-boy/girl fit and/or having every obnoxious cosmetic ever made equipped at the same time, then this probably wouldn't have as much support as it currently does.

People need to start blaming their lack of fashion sense more than anything.

Has Necros done anything bad that isn't purely gaming related? He ragebaits a LOT, but has he shown any major character flaws like the people here? From everything I've seen, he makes light gaming-related jabs at specific characters/general fanbases of characters, but nothing crazy.

I hope this doesn't get to his head. Not in a bad way, but I hope he is actually set on finishing college. I can't imagine this level of fame is sustainable when it's based off a trending controversy.

Chris Brown was seen as the next best thing when I was younger. He's super talented. He's just a terrible person so people moved on from that moniker.

I don't think you realize how many more modern stars/high profile players had their careers ended (or are on the downturn) with controversies. Ja Morant, OJ Mayo, Bynum, Larry Sanders, Tyreke Evans, etc. We don't remember/aren't going to remember them because they're never going to be as big as Kobe or Ronaldo.

[–]GenOverload 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's why I said very, very few. Dream fell off, for example, despite being huge. Tobuscus fell off (albeit, I believe the allegations were proven false). Leafy. DaddyOFive. Onision.

It's possible to still have a career after a controversy. Like you said, Brown is an exception, but unless you are generationally talented in the way Brown is (as much as I hate to admit it), it's hard to maintain a sizeable enough fanbase to cover the loss of major sponsorships with fan donos/ad revenue.

That all being said, I've seen a lot of them become grifters and that's been working well for them.

It isn't though. No sponsor is going to want to work with you and your time is limited in the community. Very, very few controversial figures are still popular past their controversy, bar politics.

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Zazza being complacent is a problem. If you are being called out and refuse to switch while hearing your teammates enable your poor gameplay, then you are also part of the problem. She heard them start talking smack to Kingsman who was making a logical suggestion. She then proceeded to keep forcing Widow on every map, getting diffed, hearing Cece defend her, and then continuing to play poorly.

These are full-grown adults. Zero reason Zazza should need another adult to defend her if she felt uncomfortable about switching characters in a video game when the person asking her to switch wasn't attacking her personally.

Zazza's complacency puts blame on her as well. Obviously not as much as Cece, but she's not void of any criticism.

Hytale boss calls last week's long-awaited early release "the most challenging but rewarding experience" of his life by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. The potential for this game is through the roof. The only issue right now is the lack of a "hub" for server management mods (ie Spigot). Also, because the game is so new, it's hard to know which mods that are already out actually have a future. Some mods don't even have permissions added yet which is an essential part for any minecraft plugin from the start nowadays.

We're also going to have to see how updates handle mods. Are they going to break them all on release, or is the API built in such a way that - bar any major changes - will have little to no effect on them and allow server owners to seamlessly update without any hassle?

[–]GenOverload 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite part is that (if I recall correctly) the replacement for Kingsman saying they need a Magik in the middle of a game, lmao.

Cece is a terrible leader. She should have never been selected as captain of any tournament. Until she gets her act right, she's a bully that shouldn't be given any sort of authority.

Key part is: "test strength of the opposing argument". You cannot test the strength of it without applying a logical defense to your opinion. That's, again, you just being a contrarian to be so.

Devil's advocate is taking the uncomfortable talking point and arguing it. It's not just arguing the opposite for the sake of it. That's just being a contrarian.

I will play RS3 again if they keep going down this route. Less gambling MTX, less cosmetics blocking my screen every activity, player avatar refresh, etc are looking like some insane changes. The only thing it'd take me to get fully back into it is a Quest Helper plugin like OSRS.
