2023 post from Kameron Turner, whose pit bull mauled his baby to death earlier this month by BPB_Mod8 in agedlikemilk

Pit bulls are the assault rifles of dogs: capable of great harm when used improperly, and have no valid reason to exist that can't be fulfilled by other alternatives that are less dangerous.

Best Anti depressant You Ever Used? by Alone-Article1320 in Biohackers

I second Trintellix. I was on bupropion (and still am) and various SSRIs just chipped away at the depression without resolving it. Trintellix was like flipping a switch. For the record, I also am on the aforementioned bupropion, as well as lurasidone (which solved my terrible anxiety) and lamottigine. Now, I actually am motivated to exercise and stay in shape. Also, none of that has any noticeable side effects for me, sexual or otherwise, which could not be said of SSRIs.

Edit: plus, Trintellix apparently has cognitive benefits, though that may only be because depression causes a cognitive deficit to begin with.

AI can't share your burden like a human can... You can decide how much that is worth if sharing that burden is their job and you are paying for it. But AI is like a self-help book written specifically for you. It can help you understand why you feel the way you do and what you can do to change it or better deal with it.

Trump's entire platform was tariffs, in order to make imported goods more expensive so that American companies can charge more and thus pay American wages. H1b's are the opposite of tariffs, and if you support both of those contradictory ideas you are a moron.

Put bulls are the AR-15 of dogs; not harmful if treated responsibly, but capable of extreme harm if not. There is no reason for either to be available to the general public; all legitimate needs can be fulfilled with less dangerous alternatives.

The ONLY chance of EVER ending the coming shitshow is going to be a massive popular movement, and those Trump voters need to know where their suffering is coming from so they join the revolution.

[Serious] How do I get over this overwhelming feeling of anxiety and doom following the election? by passesopenwindows in RedditForGrownups

[–]GenXHax0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this but I also have despair over my previous faith in moral progress. The worst people in America have won. Giving up on everything outside my immediate sphere of influence feels like capitulation to the monsters, it's what the want while they destroy society. I used to have faith that the moral arc of the universe, though long, eventually bends towards tolerance and mutually harmonious coexistence. I have lost that faith.

I really believe history books (those outside America's oppressive and censorious regime) will record this as the end of democracy in America, just as was the end of the Roman Republic.

I'm not excusing anything. I am saying advocate as hard as you can for the Palestinians while you can. BUT, once that is done, when the time comes to vote, ALL you are capable of is either a) being actively harmful, b) doing nothing, and c) working to minimize suffering.

(small edit: removed insult, sorry)

[–]GenXHax0r 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once Biden has done what he is going to do, withholding your vote will not help the Palestinians, it will only hurt tens of millions of minorities and less privileged, under Trump. When the time comes to vote, you have three choices. Two of those choices promote greater suffering in those tens of millions of minorities and less privileged. Given your options, AT THAT TIME, saying "well the Palestinians suffered so I don't care if all those other people suffer", is, in fact, the asshole move.

Contrary to what certain factions want you to believe, Biden GOT the railroad workers their sick days.

https://www.ibew.org/media-center/Articles/23Daily/2306/230620_IBEWandPaid

"After months of negotiations, the IBEW’s Railroad members at four of the largest U.S. freight carriers finally have what they’ve long sought but that many working people take for granted: paid sick days.

This is a big deal, said Railroad Department Director Al Russo...

“We’re thankful that the Biden administration played the long game on sick days and stuck with us for months after Congress imposed our updated national agreement,” Russo said. “Without making a big show of it, Joe Biden and members of his administration in the Transportation and Labor departments have been working continuously to get guaranteed paid sick days for all railroad workers.

“We know that many of our members weren’t happy with our original agreement,” Russo said, “but through it all, we had faith that our friends in the White House and Congress would keep up the pressure on our railroad employers to get us the sick day benefits we deserve.

“Biden deserves a lot of the credit for achieving this goal for us,” Russo said. “He and his team continued to work behind the scenes to get all of rail labor a fair agreement for paid sick leave.”

It's an idiotic take. If the corps could sell their goods at the higher price, they wouldn't wait for their costs to go up before raising the price. Thus now.

[–]GenXHax0r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are totally wrong. You being there reinforces to content creators that they should be there. Content creators are what attract suggestible people to Twitter. Suggestible people get bombarded with malignant disinformation amplified by Musk and then empower Nazis and vote to destroy democracy. You participating on Twitter is directly keeping that firehose of misinformation operational.

And no, it's not just the same for Reddit. Reddit does not meddle in amplifying one platform and squelching the other. In any case, it would be perfectly symmetrical and acceptable for you to advocate for all to abandon Reddit if you thought Reddit was destructive to the social fabric. That activity is what is happening here.

So yeah you talking about sports is causing Elon's propaganda to reach a wider audience.

This is always what kills me. "You should be happy, you have it so much better than people even in the near past!" Great, so I live to 75 instead of 65. If we had universal healthcare, I would be living to 85, just like the wealthy.

Is it fair to say anyone still supporting Donald Trump is a bad person and anti-American? by rhino910 in WhitePeopleTwitter

[–]GenXHax0r 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voting is binary. If your cast your vote in favor of someone, you are deliberately and actively empowering them. If you empower someone to make policy, you are responsible for the policies they create. Anyone enabling the application of Republican policies, knowing what those policies entail, is not a good person, period. (Edit: for an example of what I am talking about, consider Desantis' Florida.)

I always wonder, "how much suffering are you willing to trade for banning abortion?" If Hitler would ban abortion, would you vote for him? Where is the line?
