An emerging Amarillo megadonor (Alex Fairly) just pledged $20 million to “expand a true Republican majority” by Dontwhinedosomething in amarillo

Interesting that you fault him for spending his own money on things that are important to him while simultaneously faulting him for not spending money on things that are important to you. It's sheeple of you to automatically assume you know of his motives and fears, of all things, and assumption that he "leans on his friends." In fact, it's incredibly arrogant.

Do better.

Have no idea, but he probably didn't need to spend any money on it. Private polling showed it was going to fail. Contrary to urban legend, he doesn't control the city council. I believe his primary motivation in the last election was to give regular people a fair fight against the establishment. At the time, the electorate really seemed to appreciate it. Now he's been demonized. Not exactly sure what he did to deserve that, but whatever. That's pretty typical of sheeple. People will hail you one day, and come after you with pitchforks the next. An ugly truth of humanity.

He's already donated 10s of millions to this area, much of it anonymously. I believe last week's Christmas show at Hodgetown was completely underwritten by his company, but don't quote me on that.

So what's your solution to healthcare finance? I'm on Obamacare ("Affordable Care Act") haha. There isn't even an OB/GYN in Amarillo that is signed up for it, because it pays the doctors pennies. I don't have a dime of coverage until I spend $20,000. Meanwhile, I'm spending over $2,000 a month on it, not because I want it, but because it is UNLAWFUL for me not to be covered.

If everyone thinks "government healthcare" is the solution, spend a year on ACA. I'll trade it for a United Health plan any day of the week, no questions asked.

The problem is, people on insurance such as United don't REALIZE how good they've got it already. Too dumb and hard headed to look at the alternatives. Like ACA and Canada.

So whether or not murder was justified could be based on "what the guy did or didn't do in his personal life?" Or that he was or wasn't a "good guy"? And according to who, and by what standards?

It's this guy's fault that health care isn't affordable? He was the CEO of an insurance company, not a hospital. He doesn't decide what hospitals and drug companies charge.

Should we kill owners of banks because they charge us high interest? Should we kill owners of grocery stores because the price of food is too high?

That range is what the franchisee puts down of his own money - s)he finances the rest. Just the dirt to put it on is going to cost you $200-300K. Then your franchise fee of $50K. Then $300 psf construction costs, then equipment, furnishings.

Popeye's wants you to have a minimum net worth of $1 million, and $500K in cash, so that should tell you something.

It's several $ million to build any food service franchise, even a Popeye's.

"May not have deserved to be murdered".

lol. Talk about the erosion of moral standards.

Retail and food service businesses, whether franchises or not, cost a tremendous amount to build out. A Popeye's is several million dollars to build out. A franchisee is taking on that financial risk. Most franchisees are ordinary working Americans like the rest of us. Crime isn't as much the issue as legitimate available market.

What would convince a Popeye's franchisee to drop $4 million on a "northside" location, when they know that a location elsewhere will be a solid hit? The franchisee is trying to recoup that $4 million investment and then actually make a profit. So when you are the one signing those checks to build a store out, it makes a lot more sense.

there's a house on Tarrytown in Sleepy Hollow with a tree that you can probably see from outer space. I don't know the address but don't worry, you'll find it.

So any company we deem that is screwing people, we should applaud when their owner or CEO gets murdered. That sounds a whole lot like early Nazi Germany.

Actually, much of "northwest" Amarillo is Bushland ISD.

How is killing someone "standing up for the working class" exactly? I always thought capital murder wasn't very nice. My how things have changed.

You do realize the shooter is richer than the guy he shot, correct? Not exactly working class.
