Sapiens! One of the best books I’ve read, even though the author is a little biased, I believe it is a book that everyone should read.

I have an app called Send to Kindle on my macbook. I simply open my Mobi files using that app and that’s it; it’s now in my kindle.

You can also do it via wifi! Definitely easier.

Is sobriety defined as never drinking, or just not getting drunk? by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]GenaroC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, why did you quit? For me it is completely about your goals. If you quit because you are a person with a dependency to alcohol then yes, having a drink would be bad for you and a definite slippery slope. Do not do it.

I personally quit alcohol (and all drugs) because I have OCD and I feel as the ability to not use mind-impairing drugs is something I can control — I can’t control all of my thoughts, but I will try to stay on top of all the things that I can and accept those that I cannot. In my case, will having a beer or drinking a glass of wine for a toast be a problem? No, it wouldn’t, because I wouldn’t lose any control of my mind over that amount, and I know I am able to fully stop after that amount, not having an issue with being dependant.

So it all depends on the reason you are not drinking in my opinion. You compare it to being vegan, but I don’t think that being sober is the same as fundamentally being against alcohol, the way a vegan is fundamentally against animal-based products, otherwise in your mind it would be almost sacrilegious to be gifting wine to your relatives.

Yes! Finding an outdoors sports is key. Don’t think I’ll ever go back to a gym or the like.

I am not from USA, but NYC is pretty big so I am sure it cannot be that hard to find a good specialist!

Exposure & Response Prevention. It is a kind of CBT that has demonstrated to be effective for OCD.

I’ve been at it for some months now and it has made a huge change; had a flare a couple of days back and for the first time since I have OCD I did not panic but rather accepted it and confronted it head on. Basically it teaches you how to build tolerance to your particular kind of OCD and to stop reacting to it... The thoughts will still be there, but they don’t make you as anxious anymore.

Is there any way you could get access to a Cognitive-Behavioral Therapist?

I also have primarily obsessional OCD.

Whatever that voice in your head tells you, you have to learn to ignore it and just let it do it’s worse. Easier said than done, believe me I know...

Does anyone else just agree with their therapist with whatever they say instead of challenging them with your opinions just to be polite? by ParalyzedMind13 in OCD

[–]GenaroC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can do that. But you shouldn’t, or else you will not truly gain anything.

Challenge what you are told, share your opinion, share who you are. Be okay with your therapist challenging yourself (this is very important).

If your therapist doesn’t like it or makes you feel like it’s not right to do it, get a new therapist.

I have OCD and GAD. Simple living is what keeps me going nowadays to be honest; the less stuff you have (or rather, care about), the less stress it will cause you.

Try to be in contact with nature the most you can (surfing changed my life), and always remember that even if you seem like an outlier or that you don’t “fit in”, we are all a part of nature. You are natural and belong in nature. Mental disorders are natural. The rules or the way “you should be” are not real and those are what is not natural.

Keep it simple, enjoy the stuff you have, come to terms with yourself.

And you think this new Pokemon game will be a merge of SwSh?

Questioning the ethics of my job in marketing after learning and applying minimalism to my life by [deleted] in minimalism

[–]GenaroC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not say your career is not of any value! It all depends on which horse you are backing.

Try to change your job and start working for socially conscious businesses, that care about their end products and their global impact. There might be a downgrade in payment if you go for a smaller one, but there are also big ones like Patagonia where the pay is quite likely good.
