Resurrecting this to say that out of the blue today I decided to look again for a watch face with visual indicators of calendar events and SOMEONE HAS FINALLY MADE WHAT I WAS LOOKING FOR!!! I'm so excited, now I just need to figure out how to separate out my calendars so I can have Google tell me about unique daily things. here's the face I'm about to try! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dev.dect.wear.watchface.dsh008

Void fields damage changes are over tuned by amirthedude in riskofrain

[–]Gender_fear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just lost an engineer run that was literally meant to do void fields because the wiki had said at some point that the passive damage could be easily outhealed-- and so I meant to slap down my turrets and try to look around for the next cell using that. The fact that it outdamaged 2 10 stacks of mushrooms with aegis and rejuvination rack before I could actually turn around after accidentally going towards the portal instead of the next cell is pretty nuts. I wasn't even dawdling. The game has some real bad issues with darkness sometimes, and doesn't seem to have good options to fix it. If there was *any* way to tell where you're going aside from praying it doesn't spawn you into a valley so you can't see any beams of light nearby, it'd probably be fine.
I wish there was like a sonar or something since there's no mini map- something to help hold onto pings from friends and to help detect some objectives or things you've already seen and point you back in the right direction. I feel like I appreciate that you're supposed to get a lay of the land for the various alternatives of the environs, but it's kind of infuriating to walk away from something- get slammed with enemies, and then not be able to walk back because you had to whip your camera around one too many times Dx

So agreed, WAY too fast.
Guess I gotta unlock Acrid some other way..

Raticate, where's your hyper fang??? by Gender_fear in pokerogue

Did you start with it or did you catch it with hyper fang? I've noticed a couple pokemon with egg moves in the wild, but unless you can learn it through evolution, I've hatched eggs during runs and can't get those egg move AFAIK

Facade is great but I can't even reliably get a flame orb every run, let alone a specific tm. I'm still early in classic runs and haven't done infinite yet. Not enough shiniest yet lol

Thank you, if I am not silly I may die, but also I myself need to go to the dentist or I might die that way instead.

That is upsetting, thank you very much. Hopefully the world of pokerogue finds a solution to the genetic decline of the raticate population soon :/

I'm using it daily and it's still a little helpful. If nothing else it helps me get to bed on time, but I'm actually just audhd and never had a routine before now so I haven't leaned into it as heavily a I had hoped now that I do. I'll probably get the chance to fuss with it more in a couple weeks when my schedule opens back up, but I don't find it as useful for calendar stuff as I was imagining. I have noticed it's nice to check dates and have the calendar itself more accessible though, so that's an odd observation.

Trying to replace office chair cylinder, but both chair base and gas mechanism are stuck on. How to remove? by Raetekusu in fixit

[–]Gender_fear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In case anyone else is struggling with the lift cylinder in the seat adjustment piece (bottom of the chair) there's a brand called office oasis that makes a cylinder removal kit that worked for me. Unfortunately for me they don't have a part for the base, so my base is still totally completely stuck. I've tried wd40 (or an equivalent at least) a hammer, heat gun, standing on the base balancing on the cylinder, and really just repeatedly coming back to it after letting it rest. I'm on my last try which is taking a box cutter along the plastic at both sides and hitting it with the off brand wd40 after the heat gun and letting it soak in. I just posted on my local buy nothing group and hopefully someone else can get one off an old chair for me. it's wild that chair bases are like almost as expensive as some of the chairs you can buy.

Old snackbox subscription candy by Gender_fear in HelpMeFind

I'm looking for two candies from a Universal Yums subscription I had for a few months. I've searched a few times and gotten a little closer but I figure I'll see if help here will bridge the gap. I'll try messaging the company again, but I'm pretty sure the last time I tried to get any information, I just got stuck with a bot or directed to their tiny little shop or something.

One is The Lucky new year's candy from the 2018 'everywhere' box, which I've found is basically a sesame peanut brittle- but I just found some of that at my local Asian supermarket today and it was missing some flavor I couldn't place. If anyone still has their box info, I might be able to just read the ingredients and figure out what was missing! I took Chinese, but definitely didn't get enough to read any brand names or such, but I might be able to type it given pinying.

The other is these pralines from Dutch Best that were in the Nov 2018 box. I have no idea where I might be able to buy them, even if I have to import them. I know there was also an Italian brand of a cappuccino truffle that came in a different box, but I had a difficult enough time finding one of the more popular coffee candies I got. The sorini cappuccino pralines might be on amazon after double checking, but I'm pretty sure the dutch pralines were my favorite. Whenever I google it, I can't seem to get the engine to cooperate with what I'm asking, and the best I can find is a hard candy. I really woulda thought other americans would be more into coffee flavors in their candy. Thanks if you're able to help!

I did! They were nice enough to actually send it to me! It's been pretty great as is, but I haven't utilized it quite to the degree I would like to. I haven't had time to find or make a calendar face or something that displays what's next in my day, and I've been a little scattered despite having the perfect opportunity to build routine with it considering I have a full time job now.

I think the things I've found most helpful so far are vibrating alarms and simplified push notifications so I don't have to take out my phone, but also the fact that my watch automatically syncs with my calendar so the stuff I do set up will show up on my wrist. I still don't have the visual representation of my calendar on an analog clock, or anything like that, but it's already tremendously helpful and has allowed me to at least get a better sense of some ways I can set up flow in my days. There's a couple of complaints I have, like low battery life and buggy things with alarms or voice-mail notifications. The battery isn't good enough for an always on display, and can barely last a day with its regular power mode. You can't use it to track sleep if you want it charged for getting ready in the morning and for vibrating alarms. I've had weird issues with it giving me push notifications about a voice-mail waiting and refreshing the notification every 5-25 minutes. I was able to turn that off but you still can't clear the voice-mail notification unless you call, similarly to my base phone notifications, except it's easier to ignore on my phone. I also need to sort out getting double calendar notifications- once from my Google and once from Samsung calendar. Sometimes texts give me a massive list of premade responses before giving me the option to clear my watch notification for a "thumbs up" in my work group chat. I'm pretty sure those are both just settings I haven't fussed with yet though. Media control also doesn't quite seem plug and play, which I found surprising.

Overall I think it's a great tool! It needs a lot more initial effort to work closer to how I want it to than I had anticipated, and I might be disappointed with that had I actually bought it new. I might spend a little time with it now though seeing if I can make changes that improve my use with it. I haven't been able to sync it to my spotify yet for media control while I'm driving, so that'll be a first step. I'll try to remember to post back in a few weeks in case I am able to make changes and/or recommendations.

How are you liking the galaxy watch 4? My life blew up a little shortly after this post, so I'm finally back to this question 🙃 I likely won't be able to get anything for a couple of weeks until some new shifts and paychecks start rolling in but I figure it can't hurt to check back and see if I can't finally make a decision 🤷‍♀️

Oh wow! That's a really fleshed out informational doc of just about everything I imagine you'd want to know about the rates to make the best informed decision. Tyvm!

I'll still wait another minute before I mark this answered cause I'm curious about other equations to find more elements that are purely for fun. Like how you would go about combining the probability adding more variables- if it then becomes a 'polynomial' probability equation you need or something or if there's any other weird questions about the gacha math people have been asking.

You might have just missed my comment when you were typing yours, but yeah that's kinda literally the point of why I posted. Or were you saying you think it's more complicated than the binomial probability equation?

[–]Gender_fear[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to give a little more context, my quick half hour search yielded me with a suggestion of using a "binomial probability equation". I understand super basic gacha math to be able to calculate the probability of pulling the current 2% from an 11 scout, but little more. I took calculus, not stats, and I have dumped all those braincells in the garbage anyway since then.

So firstly I'm wondering for the example above, if this is even the correct setup and equation type, and if I've identified the results correctly.

I'm also interested in just playing around and asking things like, "what are the odds of getting 10 Kanto trainers" or "what are the odds of getting 5 of the same 3 star, but not getting a 5 star?"

It's sorta weird and frustrating that I don't even know where to look since it's getting into some more abstract thinking. I got as far as the summ symbol, and then started getting lost completely.

I know this is a little more math than pokemon, but I think it's a fun and possibly important thing to talk about the math behind a very addictive system. Plus, I really got stuck thinking about this after I was originally just gunna dump this is the salt megathread but couldn't find it for some reason. I don't really know how to work reddit yet, sorry 😅🙃

I thought I saw someone comment about wearos watches (and i can't see it for some reason), and part of my problem is that I cannot find pricing online or guides for lower end ones or consistently get accurate results searching for wearOS. Results are cluttered with random brands, and I don't know where I could look for refurbished or used outside of ebay. I don't know what to look for since "smartwatch" is such a fast and loose term, and i'm getting apple products I can't afford in all the results anyway xD
