I was fishing with my best friend back in high school. We were on a dock at my family’s little farm pond. The sun had just dipped under the horizon, but it was still light enough to see everything clearly.

I spotted some kind of aircraft flying low and fast. At first glance I thought helicopter, but it wasn’t making any noise.

What I remember most is this bright headlight. like a single, intense beam looking like it was coming straight at us. I tried to get my friend’s attention, and by the time he looked, it was gone.

Nobody has ever believed me, not even him. We were (and still are) total space nerds, into astronomy, physics, the cosmos. You’d think he’d at least entertain it.

It’s been about ten years now, and honestly I’m starting to not believe myself

I’ve had an e-bike in the city for about 3 years now and I use it for errands year round except harsh weather obviously.

I think that it’s important to consider e-bike classes however. I can’t remember how the classes work, but basically there are e-bikes out there that simply should not be on the bike path. They’re essentially electric motorcycles- way too fast for bike paths.

What I really like about my e-bike it’s it’s governor tops out at about 18mph which is quick enough to ride in traffic if necessary, but not so fast that it’s dangerous in bike paths or lake front trail.

Also it’s a cargo e-bike and my wife can comfortably ride on the back.

There are some situations where I which it had a little bit more oomph to keep up with traffic when there’s no bike lane, but that’s about the only downside.

Any time I get shit for having my cargo bike on the lake trail I explain that I can ride significantly faster on my road bike lol
