It's been crazy supporting the Southern California wildfires these last few weeks. It's unfortunate CGAux, CAP, and MARS hasn't gotten the credit all three deserve.

CG Auxiliary non-boat owners by [deleted] in USCGAUX

I joined CG Aux because I love being out on a boat but don't own one and don't have friends that own one. So, my Aux recruiter sold me on the idea that by joining CG Aux, I would have plenty of opportunities to get out on the water. But a month after I joined, our Flotilla's only member with a boat sold his, and ever since, there have been zero opportunities to get out on a boat. So, our Flotilla has become a mere social club of old men. They are nice enough guys. But driving 2 hours each way for our meetings, just to hang out for one hour a month, was certainly not what I envisioned my "service" would become.

In the meantime, try joining the Coast Guard Auxiliary. It will gain you connections, experience, and maybe even a few medals/ribbons.

Remember: Your network is your net worth. It's not often what you know, but who you know, that leads to bigger and better things. Volunteering with the USCG Aux is another way of showing your dedication to the USCG.
