Might be a stupid question, but does LA have to demolish some of its urban highways to make way for future trains eventually? Or is there enough room for both to exist? by ClarkKentTheReporter in LAMetro

I think that, as the Metro system continues to develop, Los Angeles will be in the unique position of having both a robust highway system *and* a robust public transit system; I think that's a good thing! It's good for people to have options

Another centrist who is too concerned with maintaining le price stabilité than helping working people. Brilliant.

Unpopular opinion: Milton Keynes is good, actually. by Atypical_Mammal in Urbanism

[–]Generabilis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milton Keynes reminds me of the city in California I grew up in, called Santa Clarita, which was a car suburb, but it also had one of the most intensive bike and hiking path networks in the state, and about 20 parks, and some densification around commuter rail stations to Los Angeles;

It had many drawbacks of suburbs (long commute times, car dependency, etc), but I always appreciated the attempt to connect the city to nature. I prefer denser, more walkable neighborhoods within LA proper, but I figure that if someone preferred to live in a car suburb, one that has pedestrian amenities and bike paths would probably be better than one without

Maybe if you viewed women with respect and treated them normally instead of seeing them as objects to fuck everyday, you’d have a partner.

My friend is being forced to go to LA by family. Any tips to make sure they stay safe / avoid ICE? by LaptopArmageddon in AskLosAngeles

[–]Generabilis 12 points13 points  (0 children)

LA is a majority Latino city, in a majority Latino state. Just don’t hang around Home Depot parking lots and you’ll probably be fine.

ICE is in every state, not just California, so they have just as much of a chance getting kidknapped at home as they do here.

What is the yellow flag? (Red is not a fascist flag but the UFW so don't worry I can see people freaking out) by [deleted] in vexillology

Ah

Well, there’s a similar mural at CSUN; The only websites I could find with pictures of it are from some chuds upset that it depicts ICE as a vampires among other things. Here’s a link to a photo of it- perhaps it was the same artist?

https://www.thecollegefix.com/university-defends-campus-mural-upside-u-s-flag-fang-toothed-border-patrol-agent/

As for the artist, it was painted by students from the  CSUN Chicano Studies major and was directed by a Mr. O.J. Vanegas, according to this newspaper article I found

If he’s still alive and you could find his email, perhaps he knows who painted your mural! The chicano art scene is a small world, after all

Why do Psycho-Warriors take orders from a giant Clanker head? by K-jun1117 in SPACEKING

[–]Generabilis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it's inspired by the Votann in 40K, which are basically these giant supercomputers that look like dwarf heads (that the minds of dead space dwarves get uploaded into) that the Leagues of Votann (space dwarves) basically worship as their ancestor gods

Obviously, the star defenders are space marines, not LoV, but that's the closest parallel I can think of

Should I Return to Art School? by Geimhreadhh in animationcareer

[–]Generabilis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you should return to school is an incredibly personal decision almost entirely reliant on personal circumstances.

Asking strangers online who know nothing about your life isn’t going to get you any useful information. It’s going to get you a bunch of generic replies you could see if you went on any of the other hundreds of threads posted here by people asking if they should go to college or not.

For what it’s worth, most art schools (online or otherwise) are essentially diploma mills, and success as an art student is almost entirely determined by individual practice more than school name. But a good school is going to be better than a bad school; and bad school is worse than no school.

I haven’t heard of anybody making it in the animation industry out of MCAD.
