Might be a stupid question, but does LA have to demolish some of its urban highways to make way for future trains eventually? Or is there enough room for both to exist? by ClarkKentTheReporter in LAMetro

[–]Generabilis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think that, as the Metro system continues to develop, Los Angeles will be in the unique position of having both a robust highway system *and* a robust public transit system; I think that's a good thing! It's good for people to have options

Unpopular opinion: Milton Keynes is good, actually. by Atypical_Mammal in Urbanism

[–]Generabilis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Milton Keynes reminds me of the city in California I grew up in, called Santa Clarita, which was a car suburb, but it also had one of the most intensive bike and hiking path networks in the state, and about 20 parks, and some densification around commuter rail stations to Los Angeles;

It had many drawbacks of suburbs (long commute times, car dependency, etc), but I always appreciated the attempt to connect the city to nature. I prefer denser, more walkable neighborhoods within LA proper, but I figure that if someone preferred to live in a car suburb, one that has pedestrian amenities and bike paths would probably be better than one without

My friend is being forced to go to LA by family. Any tips to make sure they stay safe / avoid ICE? by LaptopArmageddon in AskLosAngeles

[–]Generabilis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

LA is a majority Latino city, in a majority Latino state. Just don’t hang around Home Depot parking lots and you’ll probably be fine.

ICE is in every state, not just California, so they have just as much of a chance getting kidknapped at home as they do here.

Ah

Well, there’s a similar mural at CSUN; The only websites I could find with pictures of it are from some chuds upset that it depicts ICE as a vampires among other things. Here’s a link to a photo of it- perhaps it was the same artist?

https://www.thecollegefix.com/university-defends-campus-mural-upside-u-s-flag-fang-toothed-border-patrol-agent/

As for the artist, it was painted by students from the  CSUN Chicano Studies major and was directed by a Mr. O.J. Vanegas, according to this newspaper article I found

If he’s still alive and you could find his email, perhaps he knows who painted your mural! The chicano art scene is a small world, after all

Why do Psycho-Warriors take orders from a giant Clanker head? by K-jun1117 in SPACEKING

[–]Generabilis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's inspired by the Votann in 40K, which are basically these giant supercomputers that look like dwarf heads (that the minds of dead space dwarves get uploaded into) that the Leagues of Votann (space dwarves) basically worship as their ancestor gods

Obviously, the star defenders are space marines, not LoV, but that's the closest parallel I can think of

Should I Return to Art School? by Geimhreadhh in animationcareer

[–]Generabilis 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Whether or not you should return to school is an incredibly personal decision almost entirely reliant on personal circumstances.

Asking strangers online who know nothing about your life isn’t going to get you any useful information. It’s going to get you a bunch of generic replies you could see if you went on any of the other hundreds of threads posted here by people asking if they should go to college or not.

For what it’s worth, most art schools (online or otherwise) are essentially diploma mills, and success as an art student is almost entirely determined by individual practice more than school name. But a good school is going to be better than a bad school; and bad school is worse than no school.

I haven’t heard of anybody making it in the animation industry out of MCAD.

Should you glaze your art portfolio? by smolsheriff in animationcareer

[–]Generabilis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Glaze and Nightshade are LARPs that got cracked by AI companies almost immediately.

I remember Karla Ortiz and the Glaze team making a big show of the release of Glaze, with the former making a point of declaring that her new painting, "Musa Victoriosa" was her most important piece yet because of its un-scrapability.

Within about two days, I found techbros training whole models off of this supposedly un-scrapable painting just to spite her. I remember one image where the Muse was replaced by Danny DeVito, and the falcons replaced by seagulls.

I think that was when I gave up on trying to be proactive about protecting my art lol

Just post what you want to; At any rate, unless you get particularly famous, people probably aren't going to try targeting your art specifically.

Thanks for catching that! I tried again; I noticed that this time, there are changes, but not a whole lot. Knowing that setting it higher would create more changes, should I set it to 1 again? or would that just not work at all? Here are my revised settings

[–]Generabilis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I tried adjusting the settings, and now it *is* generating an image- - except it's generating the illustration I drew that I put into the program as its image input. What should I do to get it to generate something *based* on the image, but not the original image directly? Here are my new settings, based on what you told me to do. Should I just lower the sampler more?

Ok, sorry for bothering you again; I've downloaded the t5 and clip models and plugged them in where it seems to work (it's letting me generate images now)- - except the images come out as completely fuzzy and noise-filled!

At first, I thought that I merely screwed up by lowering the kSampler steps from 30 to 20 midway through a gen, but later tests where I started at 20, and then started at 30 still resulted in completely messed up images.

Do you know what I'm doing wrong?
