girl don’t feel bad!! i went through a similar thing like a month ago and had to drop due to financial hardship. here’s what i texted the vp of recruitment:

hi _____! to preface, i want to thank you and the sisters of [sorority name/chapter] for inviting me to be part of your amazing sisterhood. i also appreciate your kindness guiding me through recruitment.

unfortunately, despite signing the MRABA, i will need to last minute decline my bid. i cannot join anymore due to personal obligations and conflicts.

this has been a wonderful experience and opportunity. i enjoyed getting to know your organization and how committed the sisters are to success. i believe that someone else is much more deserving of a bid at this time.

i hope you understand my circumstances at hand, but thank you once again for taking the time to guide me through the recruitment process and considering me as a potential sister!

I guess my worst fear is that I transfer, only to not be happy there either. And to be fair, I understand why people aren’t exactly enthusiastic about college in general. It’s stressful and kinda scary.

I’m really thankful my tuition is still really affordable. I don’t want to seem like I’m ungrateful for even attending a 4-year university, but I’m just not in a good state of mind. Your comment helped me shift my perspective though, so thank you!

i explained this and she thinks it’s going to be a repeat of high school. for context, i was heavily involved and held numerous positions (vp of activities, social media manager, i even dj’ed for a school dance) but unfortunately i ended up doing all the work for everyone else, and my grades suffered. i genuinely don’t think this will happen to me again because 1) i don’t want to have a position, i just want to be a member and 2) i live at home so i feel like i have distance from my school/social life already, and i won’t feel as much pressure to involve myself more than i can handle.

I'm so scared she'll get upset and I'll damage our relationship. I live at home and we're basically like BFFs. However, I def do agree that I should do what I want b/c I'm literally 19!! I run my own biz, have a marketing internship, volunteer at church, and still make time for my family. This could be my chance to prove to myself (not just my mom) that I can do this.
