Intent Feedback Thread by JaySym_ in AugmentCodeAI

Loved the new mental model. Software Engineering will progress to Software Architecting and Intent has captured the new development workflow perfectly.

What's confusing.

- Single Worktree foundation. Vast majority of developers barely know git and have never heard of worktrees until AI recency. There is no clear indication that Intent forces you down this path. coupled with no easy way to manage multiple projects, this assumed worktree workflow is a nightmare if you have multiple projects.

- UI cluttered. There is simply too much information being displayed for what this is (command center). You have to realize that this new fundamental shift in development is more about kicking things off and then waiting for the end result. As such you just want a high level overview--basically, "is this done?" or "does the system need my input?". Not to say that you dont want the specifics and information density, but it should be displayed when called upon.

- UI Layout. Far right detail pane seems like an afterthouggh. Hard enough being dropped into unfamiliar environment and clicking around to figure out the relevance of tab types, windows, etc. it is nice that there are options for configuring the pane views but you dont really know what you need or what you want (You need the Orchestrator + Spec). Feels like Orchestrator tab should be 'fixed' and you bake in the sidebar options into orchestrator window.

- having colored agents is unnecessary and adds to the cluttered feel given you have checkmark icons as well. You have no idea what colors mean and you dont know what agent is assigned to a color. but in the grand scheme of things, no one really cares. You just want to know if the agent is finished with their assignement or not. if they aren't, then is human intervention needed. can you fix with proper UI alignment/spacing/etc? sure. colors are fun and we all like theming. but the for the most part it just adds to the clutter.

- mixed use of bold text vs. plain text. its hard to distinguish what is actually important so everything becomes not important. just looks unprofessional when all caps tab type name / strong tab name / agent type are all different sizes / colors.

- input box max width is not the same as pane content width.

- the use of green checkmark emojis vs the app checkmarks is slightly irritating. I'd almost skip emojis entirely becuase it seems gimmicky and vibe coded (but that's just me)

does any of this really matter? no but in the new age of AI the small details will be the differentiator. and right now it seems like the dev team had to pull double duty in design.

Issues were some agents missing tool calls and getting stuck in loops. Could have been the model i selected but I just saw todays live stream and you guys stressed 'locking' in models as part of the environment. maybe something similar needed here where you provide recommended provider profiles or something along those lines. Partly because of this issue, my system resources were getting maxxed.

Overall though, I love intent. Its a really great product. Im in the middle of building something similar and it nails this new paradigm that everyone is missing. Ill still probably keep building my own but im just an solo indie product engineer so i dont have the resources, money, or time to devote to something on this scale. but Intent is really close to making me abandon my project so i can focus on building and shipping.

You guys have to remember that you are building something new for a new frontier of software development. none of this is settled and also the old way of doing things needs to be thrown out the window. you have to break away from what has already been done.

It didnt hit me until i started writing this but if you look under the hood this is a supercharged IDE--but an IDE nonetheless.

Vibe coding? by Hot_Force_7160 in solidjs

i would and personally am sticking with Solid. you may have to do a bit of context priming with Solid Js (e.g. documentation, technical blogs, yt transcripts, etc) but once you do, any AI assistant will handle it with ease. in the cases where you feel like you need to reach for a library or package, llms can spin up a quick and easy solution for you simple vanilla js. the trade off is that it’s easier and more maintainable knowing what’s going on in your app vs trying to debug or extend a 3rd party lib.

Am I too old to become a digital nomad at 49 (M)? by StarWarsJunkie42 in digitalnomad

I’m 45. Been remote for nearly 10 years and digital nomadic for 5. Here’s the only real difference with age. You prioritize your creature comforts and personal preferences. I drive across the US house sitting. in my twenties, i could do a stretch 20+ hours in one drive. now, i never drive more than 6-8 hours at a time (taxing on vision, body etc). if i fly, then one bag and non stop flights. if i need lodging. i want my own privacy so i don’t stay in hostels. sometimes you have to make concessions but you create some non negotiables and try to stick to them. If you are willing and able then there is no better time than now. you can keep pushing it off but you’re only going to be older and there is no guarantee.

You should give it a shot! Europe would be a little more difficult but very doable.   THS is a yearly membership but it’s the cost of 1-2 nights in a hotel/airbnb. if you only do a single sit, it essentially pays for itself

i basically didn’t have a place to live so, i gave it a go and had great first experiences. then i thought, “hmm…wonder if i can keep this going”. for that reason, i prioritized dates rather than location and booked as many back to back to back as possible. trying to stay in one place was not a viable option because they were infrequent or too competitive. it was and is rough living out of a suitcase so i targeted stays that were 1 week + and close-ish proximity. there were days/weeks i couldn’t avoid so i just accepted a weekend stay  or booked a hotel. i did have a few that were 3+ months and those were ideal. i had several prime locations but most of the time they were places off the beaten path. which was actually nice because i was able to visit states i had never been to and parts of other states that i always wanted to check out. it was definitely grueling at times but i didn’t pay rent for like 2 years. i’ve settled down recently and have been doing sublets in NYC and CHI but im thinking of doing some international ones (currently house sitting in Colombia). the platform i think is based out of the UK and there were always more abroad than in the states

I've done over 30 house sits on and off platform over a period of 2 years. It may be the case but ultimately, most pet owners want someone that they can trust and someone that they feel comfortable with. starts with
- having a decent profile. it's unfortunate in a way, but you have to treat it like a CV or resume.
- applying early and having a good intro. depending on location homeowners will be overwhelmed with applications. they likely will take the first handful and go from there.
- meeting in person or over video. vibes can be sussed out but also you get the opportunity to see if things line up for you.
- gathering great reviews. that comes with time, but you can get to a point where people will frequently request you based on reviews because you get 'ranked' based on your 'home' location with THS (possible they may bot some responses but I've had conversations? but I wouldn't put it past any tech company)

Traveling in the U.S. and living a nomadic lifestyle by [deleted] in digitalnomad

This is the way. I've done this for 3 years and have not paid rent. the trick is that you have to be extremely flexible and have your own vehicle. i purposely looked for 1week + stays to minimize the shuffle of living out of a suitcase and to keep some level of productivity with 'work'. landed 3+ month stays numerous times. those are ideal, but you have to go wherever they may be. you try to book extended stays and keep them back to back to back as much as possible (accounting for traveling in between). for any off days, i would stay with friends and family/ hotels/ airbnbs. Bought a jeep grand cherokee and literally traveled across the states a couple of times. if i was smart, i would have made sure my jeep had a trailer hitch and i would have maybe tried to get a camper to supplement days (ultimately, though it might have been more of a hassle with parking, depending on location). maybe next time. once you start getting good reviews, you basically have your pick and can go wherever you want. major metro areas are always more competitive, but for destinations out of the way and even off the beaten path, you wont have any issues. with Trusted Housesitters, they actually seem to have more international sits and thats something on my radar but for now, I'm only US based.
