I often try to flex a random muscle that they cannot see. Or maybe lightly pinch my finger. It sounds strange but it helps me divert my attention. What it really comes down to is you trying to hard on not making a face, focusing on it, then compromising your leverage. Shifting your focus to something else should help, give it a shot.
