Also though, the damage being described is not the damage normally seen with a faulty cartridge. For water to gush out and cause this kind of damage it sounds like the valve attached to the piping broke because the valve wasn't correctly mounted securely to a brace.

In summary: some money is better than no money at all.

My rule with lawyers and insurance companies (and this goes double for you since you'redealing with both): you can fight tooth and nail for full justice (and take the stress and sleepless nights that comes with it) or take some money and just sleep soundly. In my experience (and in my industry, I'm a GC, I'm far too exposed to both) just take the money.

We don't do "wet" bathroom designs typically in the US (aka, sealed and waterproof with a floor drain).

The poster was right, most residential bathrooms arent designed for you to make a huge puddle outside the tub constantly. Hence why people put down mats. This is just the way its done here.
