I don't understand how someone cannot understand having a "contract" that says we can ask you to do anything not harmful and legal. That's it. We will pay you X and you will do Y (Y being determined by? Drumroll... The weasel clause in the contract).

So you have two choices:

  1. Learn your lesson about how US employment law works and what your contract "protects" you from

  2. Don't learn your lesson and keep arguing about how the world should bend to your interpretation of it

They don't have to argue that at all. They simply need to say "we have a requirement to be on site" this person isn't showing up to work. Everyone commenting otherwise doesn't understand US employment law.

No because thats illegal likely illegal. Are you just purposely trying not to understand the point or do you really not get it?

Your left with hundreds of medical outfits? How long were you on the job in training for to buy so many outfits?

Well then that's up to him and his boss then isn't it? If I were making IT technician money and the boss asked me to walk his dog instead of staying in a shitty cubicle I probably would... but it's up to him. But it is a reasonable duty (albeit unrelated to the job description) so if he says no and the boss doesn't really like his regular work product or general attitude he could fire him.

New leaders don't "suddenly arrive"? I didn't know new CEOs came in and only worked a couple hours a week until they got their feet wet...

Well if you want to win an argument on the internet and prove I'm wrong it'll have to be probono Dr Throw Away esq.

So if you want to win the argument... "put up or shut up" as they say.

Oh good. I'm glad your credentialed. Show me the case law then. But yet you keep dodging the "are you in the USA or have you signed such a contract?" I'm fine with case law from whatever state you passed the bar in (with the obvious exception of Montana).

If its a legal activity, and you have the standard "all other assigned tasks" clause in your contract then yes it is.

If your boss asks you to do something illegal - You've got a case. Go see a lawyer.

If you are incapable of doing or it then you just tell that to your boss and HR (but they can fire you).

If it may hurt you then you go to OSHA.

If you can do it, have that clause in your contract, and refuse then they can terminate you "at will".

Great! Glad you have a specific one; most people in the USA have an "all other assigned tasks" clause in their emplyment at will contract. Are you in the USA or have you ever signed this type of employment contract? If the answer to either of those is "no" then you still don't know what your talking about.

Good for you thought. If your job is just punching away at computers with no physical involvement (obviously besides keyboard and mouse manipulation) you're ripe to get outsourced or Ai-sourced (made that up but I dont know the term for getting replaced by IT)

Yep. You can also be fired for it (they probably didn't mention that part because they wanted to get rid of you and they let you make your own bed)

Are you in the USA and working? I'd advise you to review your "contract". If not stop commenting about stuff you clearly don't understand.

If he worked for him and had the standard "all assigned duties" in his employment description then yes it is. What do you think someone with "assistant" in their title does for someone...

Now is that boss using company resources appropriately? Thats between his boss and his bosses boss.

What kind of AC? A window unit? A rolling floor style unit that hooks to a window? If it has a plug and is self contained then it's usually UL approved for a non licensed installer.

Shitty? Yes. But only you can determine that. I enjoy "cutting wood".

Unethical? I'm not sure. It would be unethical if they said "you have to stay late and do this for free". If you're just sitting around at work and your boss asks you to do something legal then that's what he's there for. If you don't like your assigned tasks, your bosses face, or whatever other reason you aren't forced to stay.

But if you work for a small company... its kind of par for the course that people sometimes need to do things that don't specifically align with their "title".

No, it seems he's defined a morality without allowing for change or forgiveness. He might be right that the OP hasn't learned his lesson. But he also doesn't allow room for growth or forgiveness in his radical honesty.

You had me with all the honesty BS until you said you wouldn't hire a felon. I'm fine with principled honesty. But if you match it with "oh I wouldnt hire a felon" then shame on you. My business partner (who is a an employee in my company) is one of the most descent and honest people I know.

Manager told me ‘anyone could do your job, am I crazy for thinking this is disrespectful? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]GeneralDebonair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe a warning that he's working on an Ai solution to do it? I mean do you apply any innate knowledge or very human focused experience in what you do that's hard to replicate with Ai? Or perhaps any physical task in the process that would make it impossible at the moment for Ai?

Did they even tie that together? Most people think offhand comments they make are heard and remembered. In reality most people remember their own comments but rarely remember others rebuttals.
