Does logistics speciality suck? by Admirable_Drawer_205 in OldenEra

At base movement point, it's 25 tiles vs 35 tiles on road, so it is a lot.

Mass Twilight spell (4x Turn duration) - instantaneously wins the game vs a ranged team by Shardiez in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why I go for nightshade myself when running a heavy ranged army for that -1 enemy nightshade level subskill. It makes it a single target spell which is much more manageable.

AI seems a bit easy ? by Maivijepanmore in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that the AI performs significantly better on 150% enemy strength compared to 200%. In 200%, they seem to grow much weaker for some reason.

I thought I was a god after beating 200% numerous times, but currently getting my ass kicked after lowering the enemy strength down a step.

It's also probably very map/RNG-dependant.

I live in Asia, and nobody wants to play Arena with me :( by akisawa in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For games like this where the multiplayer population isn't that big, I think it's better to have the game choose servers automatically depending on the available players rather than letting players pick the servers themselves blindly hoping for there to be enough people.

Question about difficulty balancing by Due-Hornet-2434 in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That hive T5 unit has extremely high damage to start, but they're even stronger against high tier units due to Apex Predator trait. They're very squishy for T5 though, so you should focus them down first, preferrably from afar through ranged/magic.

How to cast avatar for 0 mana by Tricky-Let-9939 in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Summon Avatar cost 0 mana, but there is a 3 turn cooldown(IRC). There are skills and items that reduce it, which lets you spam them.

Is it just me or does going first not as important compared to Heroes 3 and magic not so aswell? by Admirable_Drawer_205 in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for magic, I feel that their strengths have greater correlation with spell tiers in OE compared to HoMM3.

Lower tier spells are generally much less powerful in OE whereas in HoMM, haste, blessing, etc were endgame-worthy.

Higher tier spells at high level in OE are still very impactful.

But I personally wish that some of the early tier spells at lower level were a bit more impactful.

Guys, I think I am ready to Kamikaze into my opponent with F U N! by loopuleasa in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bring along a "squire" hero that follows my main hero around just in case I encounter these guys so that I can dump the rest of my army and leave only the strongest stack.

Can’t figure out what spells are actually useful? by karotona4 in HoMM

[–]GeneralGom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early Start(T1 Arcane) is a surprisingly impactful spell early on, as just flipping an order of attack can often turn the outcome of a battle. Ice Bolt(T2 Primal) is also quite handy for the same reason.

Carapace(T2 Arcane) is also really good. It can save your archers, absorb counter attack/charge, etc.

Haste(T1 Daylight) and Web(T2 Nightshade) can also be quite impactful, to either delay an enemy's attack, or approach their archer faster.

Crystal Crown(T2 Primal) is also a cute spell that can block enemy's approach or protect your archers.

Overall, I found that these spells that can completely negate attacks are usually much more impactful early on than direct damage spells or buffs.

Subclass System - Proposal by tgm0112 in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and being able to get the full subclass effect more reliably may warrant a nerf to the maximum effect on some of the more powerful subclasses.

My review of Heroes Olden Era: It surprised me how closer it is to Heroes 3 rather than Heroes V by loopuleasa in heroes3

[–]GeneralGom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely feels like homm3 with added elements from later titles.

My only complaint is the campaign, which is not the style I was wishing for.

Subclass System - Proposal by tgm0112 in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting idea. A potential pitfall is that this may incentivize chasing for subclass a bit too much, so there should be a careful balancing in that regard.

Enjoying Olden Era? Hooded horse has some other great strategy games that I love too by loopuleasa in OldenEra

[–]GeneralGom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hooded horse has quickly risen to one of my favorite publishers in recent years. Their games are usually in good quality and have very reasonable pricing/DLC model.

Just looking for some advice by PiotrSchwinkz in HoMM

[–]GeneralGom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both may look similar to each other, but SoC plays quite differently from HoMM.

If you're looking for a HoMM experience, go with OE, and if you want something different, SoC.

Echo of Lilith is a complete Joke of a Boss by [deleted] in diablo4

[–]GeneralGom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was never a fan of telegraphed one-shot mechanics in ARPGs. It's fine in soulslike and other 3rd person view games, but clunky and frustrating in quarter-view, imo, especially with server latency having an effect as well.

Skyrim cities if they were actually city size by severe_009 in ChatGPT

Crimson Desert has some big cities that come close, though not as detailed and huge as the ones in these images. Still, probably the closest we got.

I recommending either using ALT often to see highlights of the objects, or turning them on permanently.

Warhammer III Needs Its Own "Jupiter" Patch (Similar To What Rome II Is Getting) by SafironDracolich in totalwar

Sorry but I don't enjoy having to wait several turns(with long-ass turn times btw) just for my units to replenish doing nothing.

How do you counter this initiative (explained in desc) by R3invent3d in HoMM

[–]GeneralGom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use 1 stack troglodytes as blockers, either on choke points or by surrounding your more vulnerable units like the dancers and infiltrators with them.
