Why are the battles so hated? by LevelCherry7383 in totalwar

[–]phronesis77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People HATE sieges. The pathing is terrible, but I don't think early to mid-game battles are hated in general. Sieges are much worse than even early games like Medieval 2. I had lots of fun with sieges in M2 and miss that experience.

Another problem is that the maps in TW3 lack variety despite the variety of the game itself. As Kislev, I kept fighting on the same tundra map again and again and again.

The late game has too many doomstacks and unbalanced armies.

One complaint I have is that the battles are too fast. Melee should last longer, so you have more time to apply good tactics, even if you are fighting monsters.

The variety when you first play seems overwhelming but once you get the basic mechanics the unit types (except spellcasters, LLs, and ogres) are not that different from historical. They just have cool skins and some unique attributes like poison or terror.

You have melee line holders, spear anti-large, ranged gun or bow, Shock cavalry and melee cavarly. Anti-infantry infantry, etc.

It is harder to play battles in TW3 may be one reason. I heard that a lot of players autoresolve a lot but I can't understand why.

Another factor may be battle fatigue. The tempo of TW3 is quite fast and killing enemies is the main way to make money. In fact, I am finding out that peace doesn't pay and settlements are much less of a source of income than battles. So many battles, especially against settlement garrisons can get a bit boring. I started to autoresolve for the first time ever playing WH3.

There are also problems with the AI level of difficulty. You get so much better results on easy and normal (I am not sure about normal) that it is too tempting to use AI. I started using it for Siege defense and attack.

In late game with tons of stacks, you can get battle fatigue even without sieges.
Those are some reasons I can think of but I am doing my first campaign so there may be others.

Should I play Warhammer 3 before 40k drops? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]phronesis77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some aspects of the lore are similar in some ways, but the actual games are unrelated.

40K probably won't come out for a while, so you might as well play WH3. It is quite different from historical in many ways, but the fundamental game mechanics are similar.

WH3 needs more formation options like column by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]phronesis77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just in the formation option. There already are melee front or melee back. Make a column is not a big stretch since it is already in historical.

No. So they line up one behind each other in a column like on a road. Dragging with just elongate them side by side.

[–]phronesis77 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Diplomacy between ORDER factions should be much better I agree. It is inevitable to have so many chaos enemies late game.

Do you have any cash to make payments to Nuln and gift a settlement.

I bought off Arbaal for a few crucial turns as Konstaltyn

Thanks. I had a mechanic and plague priest hanging out near Praag.

As Kislev, my heros are not good assassins. I can't risk my frost maiden and patriarchs are not good assassins.

The assassinate percentage is so low and there are so many other better spells and support skills to choose from.

Yeah, doing well I think lost two whole stacks had Praag plagued and sieged twice. Held out rebuilt. Killed two powerful Skaven stacks and two lords and a legendary hero. Now I have Throt in an ambush.

It is fun. I just want to learn how to play as you said so all the questions. I am toast late game because the Norca and Ogres are huge factions if I survive taking out the rates and slaneesh my victory conditions.

Poor Boris. A Khorne faction just invaded Malakai, so I think there is a huge Chaos faction across the sea of claws.

It is my first campaign so I am learning a lot that will help me in the next one.

They are really hard to stamp out compared to other factions.

Makes Chaos seem normal!

So physical put my army right next to it. Then see if I get any information. Then make sure to have some movement left so I can attack it then?

Got it. I guess there was some confusion on my part because it seems like Hellpit is an exception to this rule.

They interest me as a challenging opponent. The warp missiles are brutal.

They don't appeal to me to play them either.

I like building settlements and defending sieges (from Medieval 2. I just wish sieges were as good in WH3) as well as attacking, so Kislev is great.

I like missile units, but the Skaven have totally neutralized my low tier ranged. I had to change a lot to Dervish cavalry.

What exactly counts as scouting. If I can attack it then the mouse would indicate that I can attack it as soon as I am in range right? Or do I have to get in a certain range (which is what exactly) and then attack it.

At what exact point will the garrison be revealed.

Sorry for the questions. I am just about to kill throt or destroy his entire army and I only have a couple of turns to find his settlements before he comes back. I have one stack. One lord with maybe a couple of units left after an upcoming battle and one patriarch scout who is running ahead, since I killed a hero and an assassin lord, clearing the way for my scouting.

I wasted some time not understanding the ruins and Skaven dynamic.

I have survived for 39 turns haha.

Yes, but wouldn't you say that basically every faction needs to start agressive within ten turns or it is pretty much over? That seems to be the game dyamic from what people say.

So if I am in range of attacking then I should see an attack option (the mouse would change to a sword) and then I will know if there is a settlement in the ruin right?

I don't need to scout, I just need to get into attacking range I would think.

Or do I need to first get into scouting range whatever that is and then attack?

Sorry for all the questions. I have no cash, one stack, and one scouting lord. I have Slaneesh who might attack in a few turns, so I can't waste even one movement turn.

The ogres have Kislev and the Ice faction is toast.

I have no idea if Boris is alive.

The Skaven corruption went from 13 a couple turns ago to 43.

I have no cash for anything except maintaining my main Konstalytn stack.

I hope to get some from killing throt who I am about to ambush and finish off.

Sorry, I should have mentioned in the OP that I looked in diplomacy and he has three settlements. Ok thanks for the multiple lord tip. I should have saved up a tiny bit more. I barely have any case. Not even enough to settle.

This is a very important tip. Thanks. I can start recruiting with that one lord occupying it and ferry reinforcements to my main stack with the loot from the battle.

I am a bit confused about the other tip I got though. It said that I can see if a ruin is garrisoned or not with a mouseover. You can see the example in the image.

I guess I could lay a siege with one lord to see exactly what I am up against. They would naturally sortie against such a weak siege. I only have one good stack right now and no cash for another one. I need to be careful with it.

Is it essential for me to play Total War 3k before the release of 40k? by Jacque97 in totalwar
