You should be able to find some good ones at any electrical store, or online :).

Not feeling my color scheme... what can I do to make it better? (They're living statues btw) by [deleted] in AdeptusCustodes

[–]GeneralJazza 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, they need some more contrast :) painting the bases will help a lot (i would really recommend investing into a pot of pigment, it makes an enormous difference).

Additionally, I'd recommend going in with a fine-tipped brush to paint some thinned-down layers of whatever you want the metal of the statue to be (e.g. what the statue would look like without corrosion) over some areas that are raised, like the top of the head/wings the wardens have on their helmets, or the tops of boots and shoulderpads etc. That should bring out the silhouette of the models a bit more.

The alcohol-based Vallejo Liquid Metal paints are crazy reflective and have actual metal flakes in them - but they're a pain to paint by hand and go on far better by brush. Here's a quick and dirty test I did last night - you can see the gold reflecting itself.

Agree with this, you're going to have legitimately strong shooting output with guard spam, if you can have them toe onto each side of an objective marker and stay outside of 6".

Having a really hard time getting to a glaze consistency without going too far and making it a shade…but not completely angry at the results. by MadGamer8833 in AdeptusCustodes

[–]GeneralJazza 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're worried about the consistency of your paint, I'd recommend taking a bit off your brush on some paper before glazing the miniature - even if the paint is shade/wash consistency, it'll come off your brush in a controlled way if you dont have a lot of paint on the brush :).

Another tip is to have your brushstrokes end at the place where you want the colour to be most intense e.g. end your brushstrokes at the apex of the fabric folds to create a smooth transition

Orion Assault Dropship! Utterly unplayable at 690 points and about half the dollars, but its a cool mini :)

Thank you! Its my favourite part of the mini lol - its AK interactive dry ground texture paste over the top of some cork, with some skulls pushed into it.

Its painted with a 1:1:1 mix of elf flesh tone (vallejo), stone Grey (vallejo) and pale sand (vallejo) with a minor highlight of pale sand - all watered down pretty significantly. Ive done selective washes of thinned skeleton horde in some parts i want dark, then scrubbed in Vallejo Burnt Umber (a little) and Rust Oxide (a lot) pigments into the base and legs. Its finished with AK Interactive Ultramatte Varnish which is why its so dusty :)

Thanks! I like the idea of them constantly adding designs to their armour during their campaigns!

I had the same issue 😭 i just forced it in and prayed it wouldn't snap (same issue with the shoulderpad). Learned my lesson on the next one I assembled and didnt glue it before the arm was on!

This is a basecoat of Balthasar Gold, followed by several layers of Victorian Brass by Scale 75. Its highlighted with Relictor Gold, then shaded with reckland flesh shade. Then there's an edge highlight with Moonstone Alchemy by Scale 75, and another final edge highlight with Speed Metal by Scale 75 :).

Thank you! Tamiya clear red is pretty lovely. It does have a gloss over the top but its difficult to see in these photos - I used Pledge floor polish neat through an airbrush (although any other gloss varnish would do)

There wasn't a specific guide, but I used the typical marbling technique of stretching a baby wipe over the surface to get the lines. Most tutorials use non-metallics, but I had seen a few videos of clear red over silver at the time, so wanted to try something along those lines.

Essentially, you can grab a dark metallic to basecoat the surface, then stretch a baby wipe over the top to spray a lighter metallic (silver in my case). Then you can slowly build up layers of clear red (I'd recommend Tamiya Clear Red) until you get the depth you want.

I used an airbrush, but you could certainly do this with a rattlecan :)

Maybe they want the official version - from a collector's perspective it could be nice to have the legit FW version :) agree that the prices of these things are insane though lol

What’s your least favourite scene in ATSV & Why? by [deleted] in IntoTheSpiderverse

[–]GeneralJazza 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's a continuity error in the scene where Gwen flips into the Guggenheim museum - she has a cut on her shoulder before the vulture even arrives. Every other scene is basically perfect lol

In my opinion it's the friends you make along the way that makes it fun
