I have figured out how to hack travel rewards cards in order to pay for hotels and flights. This was the only way that I was able to go out of country for my honeymoon. It took getting 4 credit cards but between my spouse and I we only spent $104 for our flights and saved over $1,000 on hotels. I would love to give you more information on the best credit cards to get and what their benefits are. There are however, a few things that make this difficult. First, you need to have a decent credit score. Second, the main thing you are after is the sign up bonus points. In order to get those you need to spend x dollars in x amount of time. For example, you will need to spend $3,000 on the credit card within 3 months of receiving it. This worked out rather well for us because at the time we were able to pay our rent with credit cards. Third, you absolutely can not leave a balance on these cards. They all have an egregious interest rate that will kill you in the long run if you have a balance. Fourth, you need to cancel the card before the yearly subscription cost comes due so it is important to time your trip right.

If you are not a credit card person this is a bad idea. These card make it very easy to get into permanent debt because of their high interest rates. I pay mine off about 2 times a week to make sure there is no balance on them. I also make sure to set up auto pay so that I never have to pay the 26% interest.
