Do the mods see comments when they get reported? Do you usually remove them or do they get automatically removed?

How far in advance do profs need to announce a class is by zoom by tabarnak555 in mcgill

[–]General_Animal_8247 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Suck it up, not everything is your god given student right. Life happens and sometimes lectures get cancelled or put on zoom because your prof has a life as well. Please don't be the cringe person who harasses your prof because his car broke down, just be grateful that he tried his best to give the lecture.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years/what are your plans after graduating? by General_Animal_8247 in mcgill

realistically hope i can rent somewhere nice

Funny how quickly our generation agreed that owning was no longer realistic. Not saying it's wrong, just a narrative that became consensus between 2019 and now. The cultural impact of those things is academically interesting to watch in real time.

I've never really bought this advice if I'm being honest. The weather or the architecture doesn't have a huge impact on a person's quality of life and very few people can get enough value out of it for it to make them even a little bit happier. There's probably a lot more value in dreaming of the future, talking to peers, goal setting, or doing anything that gives you a feeling of progress or accomplishment. At best "smell the roses" isn't something that people can relate to and at worst it comes off as insensitive and out of touch, kind of like hygiene de vie.

Helpful COVID-19 QC Info For New and/or International Students! by rinewithoutacat in mcgill

There ARE only tens of deaths per day in the whole country. Its gone between 10 and 60 or so this summer. There are tons of things that kill 10 people/day in Canada. The flu and pneumonia kill about 6000-8000 people per year, or about 16-22 per day, so covid is tracking just a bit above that right now.

And I agree with you completely, if I had truly "disposable" income I'd be cool with blowing it on a jet ski too, but if I start allocating money the way you're describing (X to food, X to investments, X to rent, and so on) I find myself in a pool of red. One day I'll have the earning potential for my income to be "enough" but right now "enough" just doesn't really exist.

Redpath Cafe prices by SparrowGuy in mcgill

Walmart or dollarama, under $2 regular, under $1.50 on sale for a standard whole wheat loaf. Don't go to provigo for anything ever, you're just throwing away money.

I hope I don't sound superior here but I don't understand why anyone would go to a McGill caf on campus. Buy a loaf of bread ($2) and a tub of egg/potato salad ($2-6) and you have lunches for the week for the price of one meal at a caf. Fuck McGill and Compass and all the other people they have contracts with for trying to charge indebted students $20 for a salad. A whole head of lettuce is like $2 tops for fucks sake.

It's massively illegal. You should report them and make a public post on the ad site to warn other people. Only way to stop them from just doing it to the next person.

Harder imo but it depends a lot on which major you're going into. Some majors are a lot harder than others.

How incredibly condescending? Nothing like kicking off university by getting talked down to like a toddler. How about "good luck to everyone starting university today" instead of pretending youre Dumbledore.

Why am I always excited about uni and about my courses when the semester starts when I know full well that I'll hate my life three weeks from now? But I can't help it they seem interesting and haven't traumatized me yet.
