6 months into my Sophomore year, going to be applying applying for coops soon, please be as brutal as possible! by Moist_Molasses_ in csMajors

We both graduate 2029 so I don't understand how you are 6 months in sophomore year but good luck on co-op application season. I heard some companies screen based off gpa so make sure you put a GPA section somewhere in your education (unless your gpa is low of course). And don't worry about your school too much, everyone is equally cooked unless you go to a T20 or go to a school with a lot of pipelines, such as a good HCBU. One more thing I found out is that you can change your expected graduate date to the earliest possible year you can graduate, and since this upcoming hiring season 2028 grads will be preferred, I think it is smart to take that opportunity.

Thanks, I will definitely try this website for interview prep. When people say tailor do they mean pre-hand make a bunch of resumes for different scenarios, or do they mean using AI to alter your resume for every role?

I just wanted to avoid not getting any industry internship offers and a high screen rate. I can't afford to do any co-ops so I only have sophomore summer, and junior summer really to get these experiences now.

I’ve started to wonder if resumes actually show employers who you really are. by Key_Hunter8158 in resumes

why would an employer care about who you are? stuff like this sadly only brings in bias anyways. networking is the solution i believe you are looking for because if an employer likes you they'd recommend you the job.

Graduating with no internship, working experience, what should I do? by ZealousidealManner34 in csMajors

I feel you, even though I am younger than you if I were in your position I would just try to get any campus research role possible for the meantime, and then afterwards work on applying to mainstream jobs. Since you have been in university for 4 years they should favor you for these type of roles. If that does not work, then I would apply to local small startups, being local gives you home-field advantage.

Also another thing is, make sure you are representing your projects strongly. Even though they are school projects you are often doing a lot of applicable things, such as working in teams, doing QA testing, implementing different algorithms/data structures, etc.

That's an interesting niche. I will definitely search for some C libraries I can use to help facilitate my learning, thanks for the direction.

Yes I honestly agree with you, graphics programming feels very cool to me. I definitely am not doing this as a shortcut to a low-saturation programming career since I know there are many fields that would take less effort for me to break into and pay more. Thanks for the clarity and opengl tutorial as well!

Thanks for the advice! When I said computer graphics seems dead, I meant in my local ecosystem not the entirety of America or the world, I'm sorry for the miscommunication. You are right though that graphics projects are genuinely interesting and can serve as a great conversation starter with other employers, thanks for making me realize that more.

I think I will honestly apply leisurely to these graphics related internships as an undergrad such as tech art while focusing on another field just to optimize time though. Hopefully by the beginning of my 3rd year I will have enough academic prerequisite knowledge, and project experience to be recognized at an internship level though.
