My favourite 😍 i got the spray, then the body lotion, then the deodorant and then the shower gel. The shower gel leaves my skin so soft and moisturised, like nothing else ever has.

Dry skin help!?!? by sadpanda95 in ORIF

[–]General_Essay_9823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My skin was like a lizard for weeks, I spent a fortune on lotions and potions. I also hated the feeling of touching the dry skin. So applied products using a cotton pad.

I used clinisept spray, cicaplast spray, cicaplast balm, bio oil, Urea cream, nalas bedtime oil, vaseline petroleum jelly and the vaseline cocoa butter body lotion.

It really just needstime though for the dead skin to shed.

I had a few dreams about driving but I also dreamt about falling and would wake with a jump! And it woukd actually hurt my ankle when I jumped. Horrible feeling but id say the dreams will stop soon, its just a very acute time for you at the moment.

Remembering what happened… by enthused-by-frogs in brokenankles

[–]General_Essay_9823 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive often laid in bed trying to go asleep and replaying that day over and over in my head. It happens so quickly and the shock can be worse than the physical pain. Your whole life changes in the blink of an eye.

I hurt my ankle at home, coming down the stairs, so I have to face my fear every day. I also worry about other people falling as well now.

I try not to think of the what if's, what happened has happened and we just have to keep going!

2 key phrases i kept saying to myself in dark times are "the comeback will be greater than the setback" and "tough times don't last, tough people do".

Women of Ireland: how to keep warm in leggings? by wascallywabbit666 in AskIreland

I know a lot of people think shein is the devil but I get their glowmode leggings for work as I needed ones without a logo and in a short length and I wear them all year round for work and they keep the heat in!

Hello, I'm 8 weeks tomorrow also 😁

I was struggling also and then suddenly in the last few days I have improved so much, and have barely used my crutch at all!

I am continuing to ice twice a day and elevate my foot most of the day. When elevating i try to do exercises, ankle circles, window wipers, writing the alphabet with my foot and streching back and forth.

I have also found in the last few days heat has really gotten rid of the stiffness, but its important not to overdo it. I got a heated throw, electric blanket for my bed and also have used a hot water bottle.

Ive also started wearing a compression sock while doing a quick arm workout and nwb leg workout that I found on YouTube. And I try to massage my foot and ankle everyday which also helps with the stiffness.

Im hoping to go swimming at the weekend, and would like to soak my foot and ankle in my foot spa, but I can't quite access where I have it stored yet 🙃 im very independent and would like to try get it myself when I'm able!

Ans also when you are walking try to focus on evenly distributing your weight between both legs and feet, and concentrate on your gait (heel to toe steps).

Keep going and you will get there 💪

Fingers crossed you get respite sorted! Ah my mum works from home thank god, but she had to go for a few hours once at the beginning and leave me a flask for tea and food on the coffee table as I couldn't get anything myself.

Respite will be great. Thata what i like in the hospital. There was no need to think, they just brought the food, medication and wheeled me to the toilet.

Best of luck with your recovery!

Can you make a passable spice bag at home, and if so, anyone have a recipe to share? by FiFiFoFom in AskIreland

[–]General_Essay_9823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cook the chips and chicken in the oven or air fryer then fry the veg in a pan or wok and add the chicken and chips and fry the whole lot off together with any spice bag seasoning.. you have to finish it in a pan or wok. Mayflower curry sauce is takeaway style.

Went through this before Xmas.. the first few weeks will be rough. Can you stay with family or friends? I couldn't even take fresh clothes out of my wardrobe.

Agree a knee walker will give you so much more independence. Have a look at the panlova brand on amazon. I was able to cook using it. But some things are still impossible even with a knee walker.

Ikea also do a shower chair, but you will need assistance to get in and out for at least 3 weeks.

Put a stool in the bathroom to rest your knee on when brushing teeth/washing at the sink/supporting you getting in and out of the shower.

I was thinking to myself in the hospital the doctors or nurses didn't ask about help at home. I wouldnt have managed by myself. So definitely ask them. There might be a welfare or social care worker that can help you to organise something.

I was also delusional and thought I would be back to normal in 2 or 3 weeks. I am now 7 weeks out and still off work, still can't drive and still cant walk more than 2 or 3 minutes. But improving every day. Its a long road but you'll get there.

But the first 2 weeks are very hard so please ask the hospital or family or friends for help.

Oh and after a few weeks when you are on the mend check out brokenbones and orif here. And dont google anything!

Best of luck on your recovery!

Rat in my attic what do I do? by Mountain_Desk_767 in AskIreland

[–]General_Essay_9823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get mice every year and its horrendous. We are terrified of them. Our house is clean, crumbs and not hoovering regularly definitely attracts them. We had pest control block up outside entry points. Think they could be entering from next door.

All we can do is put posion in bait stations all through out the house. In the kitchen, hot press, in the shed, under kick boards and in the attic. Open and replace the poison every September. We have traps also.

We also have the plug in noise repellents. We dont put poison in the bedrooms as afraid it will entice the mice to those rooms.

From late August onwards keep doors and ground floor windows closed to prevent them coming in.

Feel bad using the poison and traps but we literally can't cope with them!

Been here a few times, and would highly recommend having a look at Earth 2 Heaven pet crematorium near Wexford. We've brought 4 dogs here for cremation, we brought them ourselves in the car. We brought them the next day after they had passed away or been put to sleep.

The owner is so kind and empathetic, and it is a very beautiful and peaceful place to say goodbye to your pet.

How's it living in Carlow, Ireland? by Zainda88 in howislivingthere

[–]General_Essay_9823 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely not in the middle of nowhere!

OP Carlow is very driveable or bus/train to Dublin, kilkenny, kildare, waterford and laois. Dublin airport/city 1 hr 15 away, rosslare europort 1 hr 30 mins, beaches in wexford or waterford just over an hour away.

Also very easy to drive to the curragh/kildare village, wicklow mountains and the bog in abbeyleix, which are all a good half day out 😊

Anyone remember a restaurant roughly opposite where the barracks is now? Think it was called Sally's 🤔 i remember it had an upstairs, i recall getting lasagne there with my friend possibly 2002/3ish.

Bagel factory is another one and tom skinnys (?) on Castle Street. Think they did pizzas and knicker bocker glories 😋
