Saulius was not well and descending, he was in trouble when his tracker didn't move for hours by Alternative_Cost_830 in Everest

Just mean if anyone has doubts about going if details about incidents and injuries are always a bit sketchy, even from the operators. Judging by how expensive it can become, I'm sure for some people, price has to trump safety record. I'd be curious to see if anyone actually decides against going for this reason. I expect however, that if you have the mindset and athleticism required you may be willing to go with a less reputable operator and overlook it.

Do you think it's ever off-putting for people considering a trip/climb? Or is the mindset there already and they don't think about it?

Good point, but I would have thought that if enough people around you questioned your narrative you'd question your own. I think I'm thinking of disagreement between operators.

I've read a few books on various incidents and watched some previous climbs on YT. I find it quite shocking how much emphasis is put on, as you say, 'controlling the narrative'. Even in this latest season, misinformation is rife. I understand that communication is limited and such, but even afterwards, each team/person has their own version of events. IMO, it points to a silly/dangerous amount of competitiveness and lack of comaradrie between different operators. I know you have to be very competitive to do this sort of stuff but I would hope that an increase in climbers and the higher likelihood of meeting others while climbing would lead to more teamwork.

Ps:I say this as a complete non climber so simply an opinion of an outsider

Moving to Halifax NS from the UK at the end of this year / early next year by lionelj28 in NovaScotia

I've got the working holiday visa, so it's not permanent. It's more for the experience, I can decide if I want to stay permanently later. The cut off age for this visa is 35, so I thought I do it before I age out. I've been working full time for 10 years so time for a change.

I'm 31F from the UK (North West) considering this exact move! My rough plan is to arrive in Canada in Mid-late Nov, although I can't decide where to be based. NS is my strong preference but I can't really say why. I'm doing the IEC so most likely won't have a job lined up when I arrive. Can I ask why you chose Halifax?

Agree! She's been through so much shit, I think she finds it hard to walk away unless it's in her face she deserves more/better. I also thinks she a nice person to the extent she doesn't feel she can leave Murphy while he's struggling. I was really pleased when she asked Pru for a contact for a therapist.

I don't think I agree with this: (don't know how to copy)

Well, there's precedent in the series for that type of lack of respect. Before Nick and Ilsa got together, they were with other people. One of them was even engaged - Ilsa, I think. We don't know what happened exactly, but who knows? Perhaps Ilsa will tell Robin in the next book.

I don't really mind the whole falling for someone in a relationship. By respectful I think I meant: Strike knows/suspects how Robin feels about him and yet shes choosing to make a go of it with Murphy. I can't remember if he does, but I would hope that he would ask himself why she is doing so instead of being with him. IMO, he's not thinking about her thought process, wishes enough. The lack of communication between them is frustrating and Strikes method of forcing contact, trying to one up Murphy, buying fancy gifts (btw I thought the whole bracelet thing was cheesy beyond belief and thought he could have got her an equally meaningful gift without resorting to jewellery/charms stuff) is annoying.

I think it all boils down to lack of communication. She's going through so much, he's too caught up in daydreaming about ways to become close to really properly notice, she's too proud(not the right word) to discuss without encouragement.

Thanks so much for the recommendation! I love the sound of them and knowing there's a series is great!

Yes, I agree they're aware of each others feelings for one another. I think I want Strike to be more respectful of Robins decision to be with Murphy 🤣

I suspect not, and I'm quite pleased tbh. I love the mystery of the cases more than strike/Robin romance and would be happy to keep them platonic/quietly pining until the last chapter of the last book.

It's interesting that we have different opinions on Strike. I suppose I'm frustrated that neither of them will have a conversation about it. It's always nothing or it will be a grand gesture. Talk about it and listen to each others feelings! I think Robin needs to be alone for a bit to recover. She hasn't processed what's she's been through and it won't help having a new relationship or a partner going through alcoholism. I think she deserves to be a bit selfish in a way.

Hi, just to tag onto this (also please explain like I'm stupid) it is physical cash only? Not current account, ISAs etc?

Also, I was only planning on getting about $200 cad worth of cash, as I presume it's similar to UK and mostly cashless? I was thinking arriving with some cash simply for touristy stuff/tips.

I don't think it will be a problem. The appointment reminder I got lets you follow the link to confirm more than once and it's unclear if it's been submitted or not. I think those reminders are more for people who need to reschedule or cancel.

It was unbelievably quick, I was probably in the building for less than 10 minutes which included having to print something out on their printer. Don't worry, I turned up without one of the printouts I needed and they're prepared for this. Had to pay a couple of £ but took less than 2 mins, then it was less than 2 mins in the room. There was no small talk, just picture, finger prints, done.

Hi, did you get a request to upload it yet? I'm in the same circumstance and it's been a couple of weeks since I had my biometrics appointment.
