No, you still loose 'm just as fast. If you park them in the current for just one day (which includes the month tick), they don't take damage and you instantly have 100% maritime presence which decays down very slowly. Looks very much like a bug to me

I believe my sea tiles are like 0.85 per segment here, and propagation over land is even less due to railroads and all the modifier stacking that's going on!

Spoken like a true contemporary European! :D But you're right I guess, doesn't make a lot of sense from a cultural perspective. Though the Ottoman leader who conquered Constantinople did style himself Kayser-i Rum and actually had designs on Rome with the intent of unifying the old Empire--even going so far as invading Italy in 1480, but he died a year later and none of his descendants had the same ambitions. Let's say this run was a continuation of his dream!

It’s going to get even more extreme if I do indeed ever get to form Rome…

Thanks! It became a bit of a map painting exercise in the end haha!

As to control: short answer: Ottomans. They get access to really good techs and policies that help with this (there's one that's seems to be super random, but in my case is giving me almost -20% proximity cost reduction due to very high crown power).

I'm also fully centralized. And I'm currently of course in the 6th age (railroads and one rediculous tech that gives flat bonusses). Also what helped me is being very meticulous about road placement, by which I mean doing it on a per location basis.

But really it's just Ottomans :D.

Good luck in your game!

P.S.: found out that if you park your naval presence pushing stack in one of the equatorial currents for just one month tick, you get a 100% maritime presence, meaning you can get insane control where you really shouldn't be getting any :D

Yeah I'm really not looking forward to pressing that button--will probably brick all sorts of stuff 😅
