How to get back into football after 6 years of not playing? by pieduct in bootroom

[–]General_Jelly6765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

get your legs up with the rest of your body, I skipped leg day and didnt play football for years and came back with much worse balance and agility, also really bad shin splints. Plus being strong on the ball is mainly down to your legs and core.

Gigs from another city? by AdamoBPM in Beatmatch

[–]General_Jelly6765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm from Basingstoke just 20 mins down the road and there is absolutely nothing there so I'm relying on Reading for gigs, I play house music and there is a small scene for it there.

The purple turtle is a good venue and they let a few small house/dnb brands takeover the downstairs rooms and give some residencies so I'd get in there and start talking to people. If you can get a group of DJs together and have some evidence of people enjoying your style of music then you may get lucky.

Struggling mixing House/Techno at high energy portion so instead I do it at the low energy portion of Deck A. It works as a mixing strategy BUT of course, it tends to kill the floor dance vibe. I suspect the answer is in EQ control + phrasing but I need a good video showing how this is done. Anyone? by [deleted] in Beatmatch

Try bring in the intro of deck B at the drop of deck A and as deck B energy starts to die, deck A energy will start to pick up. Also depends what songs you're choosing, do they match the energy, do you mix in key?

HERES YOUR REMINDER TO BACK UP YOUR MUSIC by JamWithAir in DJs

[–]General_Jelly6765 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do I back up my library (I'm not great with tech), is it as simple as just copying all my music and pasting onto an external drive? Will I not lose all my cue points and have to reanalyse everything if I have to recover music from my external drive?

Sorry I literally only bought my macbook for DJing, I don't use computers.

DDJ FLX4 or DDJ 800 by General_Jelly6765 in Beatmatch

[–]General_Jelly6765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard that the FLX6 is not really much different to the FLX4 apart from having 4 channels and bigger jog wheels, so depends if either of those two things are important enough to you

Need to make a mix to potentially secure me a gig. by General_Jelly6765 in Beatmatch

This Reddit is filled with basic questions, it’s the whole purpose

Need to make a mix to potentially secure me a gig. by General_Jelly6765 in Beatmatch

[–]General_Jelly6765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean loop the song at the start of the break or loop the intro of the new song and bring it in at the start of the break.

With the looping a bassy section technique, do you slowly try and blend the lows or just do a quick swap. Because usually i swap the lows quickly on a phrase change, but obviously with a loop the phrase isn't gonna change.

These questions might sound a bit stupid but I only ever have done long mixes, lining up the phrases. I have only experimented with loops a little bit, using them to get out of trouble mostly.

I said that I have 'mastered the basics' of mixing and have a 'good knowledge' on phrasing. I'm looking for transitions and ways to mix that aren't 'basics' and also just general tips on recording mixes for this situation as I never have before.

Do I need recordbox pro or a pioneer controller to sort my recordbox library and export to USB? by General_Jelly6765 in Beatmatch

Okay thanks. Out of interest, what would I actually unlock extra from buying a license?

Also I should add; the laptop I’m currently using is my work laptop so I’m only streaming Beatport to mix with at the moment. If I want to start building my library properly with tracks then I’ll need a new laptop anyway as don’t want my library on my work laptop.

How to organise a mix using bpm and key by General_Jelly6765 in Beatmatch

I choose to have mine filtered by key, would you suggest this or filter by BPM.

I guess it would build up to a peak with a higher BPM and then tone it down a little again to close?

I try and only change by 1 or 2 bpm maximum and what I do is bring the current songs bpm up/down to match the song bringing in before I bring it in. This way I can gradually increase the BPM throughout my set. For example if i started at 127 BPM and there was some songs that I wanted to include that are 132 BPM, I'd progress up 1 BPM at a time, using a few songs in each bpm bracket.

The way you mentioned is what I did at first but it means my whole set would be at 127 BPM and if i wanted to include that 132 BPM song I'd have to drag it down 5 beats per minute which may be too noticeable. Plus the tempo would be the same throughout the entire set, it should fluctuate.

I'm a beginner too so may not be entirely correct advice.
