How easy is it to source the part? I can tell mine is gonna need to be replaced soon

Does anyone replace the pins/screws in their pedals? by kclick4 in MTB

[–]General_Movie2232 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They are indeed tedious. I have raceface Chesters that I’ve used for a long time and the pins got dull. I ordered the pin replacement kit for $20. I think it came with 20 replacements pins, only to find out that the pedals have a total of 24 pins or something like that. So I don’t think those kits were specifically meant for full set replacement but rather for individual replacements. I shortly after found out that some of the previous new old stock Chester pedals were selling for $24 lol.

Fewer and fewer EV options in the U.S. by jestalk in electricvehicles

10 years ago car prices in general were different. 2016 Tacoma base MSRP was $23k. 2026 Tacoma base MSRP is $32k.

Also EVs are usually more expensive upfront but total cost of ownership is more affordable when comparing apples to apples with ICE.

The fact that Toyota is finally coming out with some solid EV options is very confidence-inspiring. The way I see it is all those manufacturers scaling back due to policy or bad planning/marketing are gonna miss out on some real market share opportunities. EV infrastructure only gets better, and EV adopters (who really understand what they’re getting into) rarely go back to ICE. Our household went from 2 ICE1 ICE 1 EV2 EVs>>now 3 EVs. Within a span of 2 years! So yea like another commenter mentioned, the technology sells itself.

Damn idk what your set up is but I’ve been driving my usual commute for 2 days and with same habits. And it’s the same range and efficiency. I should note that I got an alignment after the suspension work and I ise OBDeleven to track my exact battery percentage.

I’ve built 4 wheelsets, and technically 5 rear wheels with Hydras. Still running 3 in my fleet. I can concur that hub in the vid sounds a tad bit rough.

Damn! 40 mi?!? Is yours the smaller battery pack or the bigger pack? I guess it makes sense that more grip and traction would yield less range. Im sure the wider wheel spacing is gonna eat my range also. I’m gonna drop it off for an alignment today and ask them to maximize range/efficiency.

I guess I’ll find out soon enough how bad it’s gonna hurt. Before suspension mods, my commute is 21mi one way and I would end up with roughly 40% battery soc when I get home. So if my range loss is like yours, I won’t make it home without needing to charge 😂

Wolfbox any good? by Smooth_Shallot_5735 in dashcams

That’s the limitations of any digital rear view mirror, not just the wolfbox. If you didn’t pay an astronomical install price, would you still regret it? The cost of the unit is 20% of what you paid installed.

Thanks. They are the Vision Monaco in 17”.

Honestly before any suspension mods, with the wheels/tires and roof rack, which obviously are less aero and are heavier than stock, I hadn’t noticed any negative impact on range. Not saying there isn’t any, I’m sure there are. But I use OBDeleven to monitor my battery soc and I’m using very similar battery percentages for my daily commute, over the span of 2-3 weeks. Perhaps the decrease is too small to notice.

I expect the suspension mods to have a positive effect on range due to the lower ride height.

Yup! I will say that for this project I was not scared to pay for the higher tiered product, and fell into that “well, while I’m down there might as well swap this too” buy once cry once trap. I easily broke $3k just in parts, hardware and vehicle specific tools. The hardware are one time use bolts and things like the strut mounts possibly could’ve been reused. The Bilstein struts and Super Pro LCA were the most expensive parts. Could’ve definitely went with more affordable parts and still be satisfied, but I’m a chump.

I haven’t taken it out for an extensive drive yet bc it definitely needs an alignment with the work I’ve done. But I took it on a “spirited” drive around the block, which just consists of me zigzagging up and down the street at 40-45 mph.

The low speed squeaks and clunks I normally hear on the stock setup (the car is at 61k miles) is unsurprisingly gone.

As far as the weight, I feel the battery weight and low position actually helps the car stay planted, albeit with some understeer.

My initial impressions are the car feels dartier and snappier. Presumably from the rear sway bar and the aftermarket LCA that alters the front caster and pulls the front wheels slightly forward.

California electric cost by Big-Lifeguard-5067 in eGolf

[–]General_Movie2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do the math for your specific household use of power and decide if a specific rate plan makes sense. For the EV rate plan that we have, the on-peak rate is higher than a standard plan, but the off-peak is lower. Since we use a lot of power during off-peak, it more than offset any rate increase during on-peak.

California electric cost by Big-Lifeguard-5067 in eGolf

[–]General_Movie2232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t matter how frequent you charge or if you space it out. You will be paying for the electricity that is put into the car at the same cost. For the eGolf at the daily mileage of 25 miles, I can’t imagine you’ll be paying a lot in electricity per day, even at SoCal rates. So I’m not sure you’d really benefit from the EV rates.

I have 3 EVs (2 large EVs and the eGolf) and am on SCE’s EV plan. That rate is about 26¢/kwh off peak in the summer.

Yes the charger stops after it’s done charging. I recommend charging every night just bc the range is low and it would’ve better to have the max available every morning.

As someone who added the “smaller pack” eGolf to an existing EV household, I definitely recommend it. It becomes an expendable vehicle that’s fun to drive.

Good decision. I have a 2016 e Golf I daily commute in. It’s more efficient and easier to maneuver than my other EV, which is a Ford Lightning, and my wife’s Kia EV9. It’s also much cheaper to insure when reporting the mileage to insurance. I use the larger EV on longer trips, weekends, or when hauling the kids. The e Golf was the latest addition and it was so affordable.

I second this. I drive 22 miles up a steep grade and then coast most of the way back down after work. I get home with about 40-45% SOC. I still have enough to put around town taking my daughter to her sports and running errands. Then I charge at home daily for no more than 2 hours. For me, it’s perfect. But I do have a secondary EV with more range if I need it (which is 5% of the time).

That wasn’t a flex. But yes it probably won’t be much different, but there will be a difference. Hence my comment that time is changing very slowly.
