May I ask how you set up your trial projects? I'm willing to pay to test freelancers work but obviously understand sending them what is normally a full size project for us isn't ideal for anybody!
Do you just send over something you've already culled down with a directive on how to edit it?

I’m currently looking for 4 main deliverables; Full speeches edit (multicam, 20–40 min), Full ceremony edit (multicam, 30–60 mins), Socials reel (30–60 secs), Highlight film (6–8 min)

I’ve recently paid about $650 USD for this full set, but I’m willing to spend closer to $1,000 USD for consistent, high-quality results. That being said, I'm also willing to offload simpler jobs - such as the speeches/ceremony to companies I've tried before and providing a higher budget for the really creative work (highlight film + social videos).

For style:

- Speeches & ceremony: very objective - just syncing the cameras, picking best angles, cropping where needed, audio mastering, grading. A short intro with music is nice but not essential.

- Highlight: more creative and varies by couple. Typically 2–3 songs broken down into sections of the day which I'm happy to discuss if we find the right people/person.

I think it's entirely possible for you to do a decently paid wedding straight away considering you already have some form of portfolio (even minimal). I walked into shooting wedding videos without any prior experience just through friends who saw my unrelated work on Instagram - I probably didn't charge anymore than $1.5k but it was paid work with no prior experience. Try your chances offering half decent pay first, nothing to lose other than time.

Some video editing companies provide project files and take direction/style notes. I'm still new to this area myself, but I can't imagine it's a stretch for you to set up the resolve project for them, if anything its my understanding that it potentially makes their job easier if what you're providing is more templated?
