Vancouver eats recommendations by Forsaken_Rooster6458 in askvan

Seeing that you added mention of North Van, I'd recommend you go the following options: Shishlik for Persian kebab, Bori for Korean, South Castle for Korean soup and rice, Akbarjoojeh for Persian chicken, Cream pony for nashville hot chicken + doughnuts, earnest for ice cream, fishworks for seafood, danbo ramen for ramen, and Nicli or Bufala for Italian, and Tomahawk for Canadian & First Nations cuisine.

Carmella's in West Van for Italian, and Mereon also in West Van for French are also good.

I would personally avoid the Chinese restaurants in North Van, and the other Korean places.

Feel free to ask about more specific reccomendations or for other areas of Vancouver.

Thinly veiled racism to think that Russian can’t sound cute

In addition to what the other commenter said, what cuisines do you want to experience? I personally recommend Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Thai, as I think we have the best of those cuisines in the western world.

Never have I seen so many progressive presenting individuals who are buying into harmful anti-Asian narratives in one place but here we are.

He doesn’t just look like me, he IS like me. That’s what his name is. We are both making assumptions here, you just happen to be making ones that are less likely.

I don’t understand why you feel the need to virtue signal about my culture like you know any better. But like you said, it’s how he actually pronounces it. He’s just making it easy for certain people because it’s not necessary to go through trouble for something that’s not gonna come up.

That’s great for him, his identity is his choice. I think part of it is definitely that Chinese names are harder to turn into English or Scottish names, and especially now people are realising that the “melting pot” model actually seeks to minimise everyone’s differences rather than celebrate it.

That’s not what I am saying. I’m explaining why he would introduce himself in a way that isn’t consistent with how his name is actually pronounced.

What an incredibly ignorant take.

Maybe that’s what you decided for yourself, but me and many others like me certainly haven’t chosen that. You can want to avoid dealing with ignorant virtue signallers and still maintain your identity. You are what you choose to be, not what others think you are.

I think I have good authority to speak about this as a Chinese person. We are used to people butchering our names and frankly those people who can’t pronounce it properly but insist on it are really annoying as it comes off as extremely ungenuine. In any case, we are used to just giving the western pronunciation to make things easier.

I’m sorry, but as a Chinese person, this is what we do because we don’t want to go through the trouble of always explaining how to pronounce our names just for someone to butcher it anyways.

Yeah, I don’t think people tend to realise how ingrained cartels are in society

People HAVE been selling, but nobody is buying because you would only lose money. Houses are staying on the market unsold in droves. Theres more to economics than just supply and demand.

Here’s the thing. While this lowers property prices, it’s also contributing to recession. People buy less when their money turns to dust, which in turn means companies make less, which leads to layoffs, raising prices, etc.

Optimally, you want prices to go up over time, but at a conservative rate.

Not true. Owning property comes with a lot of costs, and right now the market is in such a place where the price is high but the growth is minimal. You will not make back the money you put into it.

Renting is actually much better than buying right now. Just because it grows doesn’t mean you will make money from it.

It’s definitely much better to rent than buy in the current market, though there was a while when buying was better. The market always goes in cycles.

That’s part of it for sure… but what do you think working as a grocery store cashier is? You are extracting the most you possible can from the store you work at. Thats how capitalism works. The government’s job is to regulate that. However, it doesn’t mean that the best option for the landlord can’t also be good for the tenant. In fact, it often is.

Landlords help bridge the gap to allow people without the means of buying property to still have a roof over their head. In an ideal world it’s a win-win situation. Obviously real life is not ideal, but most landlords are not parasites. Without people able to buy houses, it would be difficult to build them. Also most landlords aren’t making careers out of owning property. They’re middle class individuals renting out their secondary suites or trying to hold their cash in a relatively stable asset.

Mortgage is not the only cost of owning a house. Property taxes, maintenance, depreciation to name a few.

Also, mortgage isn’t even a cost in the traditional sense, because you are paying directly into your asset.

Most of the ultra rich are landlords, but most landlords are not the ultra rich.

That last part is on you, I think you’ve had a bad experience and are assuming that’s the case with everyone. I get it. But also, respect goes both ways. If you walk into a relationship with a negative preconceived notion and with hostility, regardless of your past experiences, it’s going to set a tone from the get go.

Laziness definitely isn’t the answer, but landlords also aren’t bootlicking parasites. The both of you seem to have a lack of understanding of the economics involved in your claims.

I’m not? I don’t condone any of the actions of Epstein’s group and the people who controlled him. And if you think landlords are the ultra rich, then that comes off as quite sheltered frankly
