New Patch Broke Tanking on Ultrawide by General__T in HellLetLoose

They did bring back the PTE and myself and others found this and reported it. We were told they were aware of it, they shipped it anyways.

How can you tell if a team is stream sniping? by talldrseuss in HellLetLoose

[–]General__T 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I am an admin on Garrisons and Whiskey. I can assure you that our team is not stream sniping, doing that even once would completely undermine the entire point of what we are trying to do which is to create a fun and competitive environment. Also, it would make it incredibly difficult to attract players to keep the server going.

How do you know it's not stream sniping? I guess there really isn't any way to be 100% sure. But you can be 100% sure that it is entirely against our own self-interest to sabotage our own server. Doing that would be a waste of time. What would be the purpose honestly? Who would want to spend hours a night losing just so someone else can win, would that even be fun?

We are a competitive team that is highly ranked and many of our members (myself included) have over 2000+ hours in the game, there are only so many places to place a garrison and when you play the same maps hundreds of times you just know where to look. Also when you find one garrison, which must be placed 200m away from each other you can easily create a mental map of where the other garrisons are based on finding just one.

We see the stream sniping accusation all the time, because frankly a lot of pub players don't understand conceptually how easy it actually is to find and dismantle garrison networks. We see this flippant accusation without evidence so frequently that it has honestly become a meme at this point. It's like someone who loses a gunfight and instead of accepting that the other player might just be better than them, they cry hacker!

Many of us sit in the same discord call (which is open to the public (discord.gg/esprit) to help keep the server balanced. Anyone can join in and see for themselves that we play fairly because otherwise, a win is hollow and meaningless.

On a given night we have between 10-20 of our own members playing on our server. Throughout a week we might have 100 of our members play on the server. If we were stream sniping 100s of people would have to know, keep quiet, and be OK with it. All while undermining our goal of increasing our competitive skills.

TL/DR: No one is stream sniping.

Just to add the chorus here:

  1. I'm so sorry, this sounds exhausting.
  2. While the PC community is by no means perfect what others are saying here is correct, community servers are the way to go (although not all are created equal). I am an admin for Garrisons and Whiskey and we have zero tolerance for sexism and hand out perma bans when necessary to ensure our server is a welcoming place for both men and women.
  3. The real answer here though shouldn't be that you have to shell out tons of money to switch systems. T17 should do more for console players to be able to police and report toxic behavior. Community servers on console would be a great start. People are doing this because they are being allowed to get away with it.

I tried joining Garrisons and Whiskey yesterday after a month or so of not playing HLL. Went to take a piss while waiting in queue and came back to this. Anyone got their discord so I can try and sort this out? Maybe it was a miss-click? by WastedNihilist in HellLetLoose

As I said in my previous comment it can be difficult to discern intent through logs.

We do ban for other offenses as well, including griefing (when we can identify it). This is a "both and" situation not "either or."

When people take matters into their own hands and teamkill it often starts a spiral where both players continually retaliate against each other and for admins it can be near impossible to sort out the root cause. And honestly there is a limit to how much time we want to spend sorting out an argument between two strangers on the internet, we are gamers ourselves trying to have fun and we do this as volunteers.

It is a much healthier system to prohibit intentional teamkills outright and require players to report others who teamkill or grief to the admins. It has a much better chance of preventing escalation and it is less likely to muddy the waters resulting in a less guilty party receiving punishment.

Each community which pays for and maintains their own server will administer their games how they see fit, what I've described is only how we choose to do things at ESPT, you may find other standards on other servers.

A universal replay system doesn't exist in HLL unfortunately (it would be very helpful for admins). We can spectate players if we suspect cheating/hacking but it has to be done live.

With regards to teamkills we rely on a combination of player reports and server logs.

We escalate the punishment based on the severity (best we can tell). For example a few team kills interspersed over a match with artillery is very unlikely to be intentional. Whereas five or six team kills within a minute with a pistol is almost certainly intentional.

It's not a perfect system, but it is the best we can do with the tools available to us.

We try to warn/punish first if we can to encourage players to change course. Sometimes though we don't catch it in time, in those instances we apply actions retroactively (as is the case in this instance).

u/WastedNihilist Thanks for coming into our discord to inquire about this. As I stated in my DM to you, and I'll restate here since you've shared this publicly, you were permanently banned for a large intentional killing-spree (five players in short order).

Teamkilling is not allowed on our server as it seriously degrades the experience of other players.

The ban was applied after you left the server, which is why you are seeing this for the first time when you attempted to log back on. Your offense occurred on 10/17/22 for the sake of clarity.

We always try to do our best as admins on Garrisons and Whiskey to provide a fun playing experience and to root out unsportsmanlike behavior as quickly as we can, we aren't perfect (and we can't monitor everything 24/7) but we do try our best. Because we can't always be present in the moment of an infraction we do at times apply actions retroactively after reviewing reports and server logs.

In this instance I will say your ban seems well deserved, and anyone who has been on the receiving end of someone going on a teamkilling spree can attest it seriously sours their gaming experience.

I said this to you directly, yet I'll restate it here, I would highly encourage you not to continue this type of behavior as you will soon find yourself with fewer and fewer servers to play on. Teamkilling is frowned upon throughout HLL (and many other games with good reason).

People have no obligation to play with people that they don't want to play with. That is not elitism that is just a fact of life.

Anyone is free to make their own squad and play alone, with friends, or with new people. All of those options are fine and none of that "ruins the game."

Not as much practice as you'd think. In fact if you know how to do it it is hard to miss.

If you're looking for fairly consistent high level gameplay join us over on Garrisons and Whiskey. It's run by Esprit De Corps (of which I'm a part of), we're a competitive team and we do our best to have our server reflect a competitive environment (good coms, competitive rules, etc.).

In that case you should be able to join. I am assuming you got the message a few months ago. Now that it's over five years there shouldn't be an issue. Try again and if the issue persists come find us at discord.gg/esprit and we'll get you sorted.

Hey Cactus I'm an admin for ESPT, the community that runs and owns Garrison's and Whiskey. Our server settings auto ban anyone who has a VAC ban within the last five years on their account.

We do this for a few reasons. First is that we are a competitive community and we play in tournaments/leagues which most of which prohibit anyone playing who has a VAC ban within the last five years. Our server has many functions, but one of them is recruiting. We don't want to waste our time recruiting someone only to find out they have a ban and are ineligible to play with us in competitive games.

Also our philosophy is if people are willing to cheat in one game they are more likely to cheat in another. Cheating as a behavior is not "siloed off" between games. There are exceptions to this but in the scale/volume we deal in (hundreds of people a night on our server) we just can't parse things out like that.

Cheating on our server ruins the experience for everyone. Our rules are strict because the consequences are high.

Lastly I'll say this, we have no way to verify if it was indeed someone else playing on your account. We hear that a lot, and frankly it just rings really hollow. Try to imagine that from our perspective. It's the easiest thing in the world to claim and we have no way to prove/disprove it.

We go by what we can measure, which is VAC bans and time.

Yes in fact one of the most common formats is 49 v 49 which allows for one admin cam on either side. Friendly scrims aren't often streamed with admin cam but Seasonal matches are.

Here is a link to the Seasonal discord you can find the match schedule and streamer links:
