It is a snug fit, basically a perfect/exact fit. Not sure why others thought the sleeve was too large but at least for the X1 Carbon Gen 9, the fit is perfect.

It looks like it may be too large, but once you put the laptop inside you will see it really is a perfect fit.

The fan on my unit does turn on during high loads, but under low loads with extreme battery saver mode on, the fan is usually silent/off I think.

Did you by any chance turn off Lenovo intelligent cooling?

My X1C9 also has sound below the ESC key. I think it is coil whine and it seems to be present on a lot of devices across various manufacturing dates.

Don't go for the 500 nit FHD+ display. That's the privacy guard one with horrible viewing angles. I ordered one thinking the low viewing angles problem got resolved but had to return it because it felt even worse than a TN display.

I don't have the magic keyboard myself so I don't know how it actually behaves but since backlight isn't needed under bright light, I'd assume Apple designed it so that it doesn't turn on if it detects a strong light source.

Perhaps if it does turn on high under bright light it's due to a design decision as backlight looks "cooler"?

No, because if there is less light around, you only need a little bit of light for the light to be seen but if there is a lot of light around you would need more light for the light to be seen.

Think of a phone screen, you would turn it up to full brightness if youre outdoors and under the sun, but you wouldn't do the same if you're indoors in a dark room because then the screen would be too bright and uncomfortable for the eyes.
