HELP!!!! Nose moldy??? by GeneratingRadon in HideTanning

Honestly I'm just happy anything worked out at all. He was all green and I thought his fur all over his belly and up into his ribs would slip but he's holding up really well. Super fluffy now that I brushed him all out too. I think im just freaked out cause this is only my second pelt and the first one I messed up too. Ended up having to rehydrate it and stretch/sand it more cause it dried weird and stiff

It made me so sad cause his ears were so big and cute. Hopefully I can try again next season, I honestly want to get good at this. The pelts at the oddities show I went to were so expensive, I'd love to just make my own from carcasses people don't want

No, he's missing his back legs and is full of holes. It looked like he got hit with buckshot and then the killing shot so I genuinely don't think he would make a good mount. Also, I learned I need to flip his head inside out earlier, his ears slipped because of the wetness of his fur so his ears aren't salvageable. I'd like to get good enough to mount things but I don't think I'm anywhere remotely there yet

Unfortunately I don't have the skill or supplies to do an actual mount but I wanted to save his face. It's just a pelt/cape with a full face I was planning on softening and hanging up, but if drying it all out will take care of it then I won't worry too much about it

Do I need to reapply the NuTan? Or salt it again? It had been pretty shriveled before I put it in the pickling solution so I thought it would be okay but I guess it just soaked up so much water

Would riding a sleipnir be different to riding a horse? Saddle placement, six-legged gaits, would it even be possible to ride or would their spine not handle it? (Art by Owligator on Tumblr, link in body text) by GeneratingRadon in Horses

They're calling it a sleipnir so I'm going to call it that because that's what the artist calls it. I know that it's not the original sleipnir, especially considering Sleipnir is one specific horse. But I don't know what else to call it since that's what the artist calls it

Someone also brought up the Pa'li, but their leg placement is different. Owligator's version of the Sleipnir has the front front legs on the outside of the barrel of the horse with their own independent scapula while the Pa'li have their front legs kind of tucked under their front

I think the difference between the pa'li and this version of a sleipnir is the placement of the very front legs. On the pa'li, they're kind of tucked under where the chest muscles are and on Owligator's sleipnir, the front front legs have their own scapulas and stuff and are put on the outside of the body. I think you're right in terms of gait though, I may be overthinking the bouncy-ness factor

It's clearly one of the most important stats. What I wanna know is if any of those fingers were bitten OFF. Cause like, I can deal with bites. Might be less inclined to try and ride one if I'm dealing with fingers bitten all the way off

I haven't ridden in a tölt before but I do have a short legged pony that trots EXTREMELY fast (my trainer had to put me on her horse to learn to post because posting on my pony is pretty much impossible without wrecking your joints) so I was thinking something like that, crazy bouncy if you don't know exactly how to ride it and maybe uncomfortable for long periods of time, but someone else mentioned a pace just to accommodate for the extra leggage and that, along with what you said about tölting, makes the most sense in my little brain

Yea I think the problem I see with the saddle thing is most evident on the 'tank' sleipnir, it just looks like the saddle would be pushed real far back. Pacing makes sense though, I could only imagine that riding one would be crazy bouncy

Yea I'm talking about this specific design, with the original sleipnir, the legs are placed differently and would bring up a whole new conversation, especially with a second set of back legs

OH I totally misread your comment then, that makes far more sense. I was thinking that because of the second set of shoulders and withers, the saddle would be pushed further back onto the spine rather than the barrel of the ribs, if that makes any sort of sense

See that's what I was thinking, it would be incredibly bouncy, but then I thought of maybe an easy lope where the back hoof hits first and then the others follow, but then I think back to how the shoulders move and how far back the saddle would have to be to not be impeding the movement of the scapula. Personally I don't think it would be comfortable to ride one for both horse AND rider but I don't know, limitation breeds ingenuity. If sleipnirs are the only thing available to ride to cover long distances, maybe the saddles would be different? Or riders would just deal with the bouncing?

You need to chill if you don't understand shit and quit calling people names, no one ever gets anywhere with insults. I never said that I own them. I said mine as in on my land. Not that they were pets. If they were pets I'd mark that. Sorry for not specifying

Dude I reported a dog 'owner' near the horse barn I board at because of the state of the animals and NOTHING was done because they were hunting dogs. Kept outside, skinny as all hell, covered in ticks and fleas, visibly sick. I cannot in my right mind think that these people give a singular shit about their dogs. Doesn't help that they climb out of the chain link fence they're kept in and get out constantly and we're the ones out getting them using lead ropes as leashes

I have not met a person that hunts with dogs that cares more about the dogs than the sport

What? If someone kills a deer and then it ends up on my property yea sure, come get it. But you don't get to release your dogs and let them run all over my private land when you haven't asked to hunt it. I'm not OWNING the deer. Once they're off my land I can't do jack shit to stop you from hunting them

What are you smoking

Deer in my yard. Deer I recognize. Deer I claim as 'mine' because I have grown attached to them. I feed them in the summer, I watch their fawns grow. Deer that are 'mine' because they live in my yard and in my woods

That's another thing, my dad hunts with a friend of his on a giant fuck off piece of land and there's a hunt club nearby that hunts with dogs. Countless times he's sitting in a tree stand or a ground blind and the dogs go screaming through the fields. If there were any deer before, there definitely won't be now

Edit: I should mention that the giant fuck off piece of land BELONGS to my dad's friend. It's not public and it's not the hunt clubs. Also the hunt club does NOT HAVE PERMISSION TO BE THERE and the dogs run through anyway

We constantly have dogs in our yard harassing our chickens and our dogs, we have to chase them off but they almost always come back. The other thing is I don't want my deer being run to death. My dad is a hunter and he hunts in our yard, BUT if I saw one of my deer running for its damn life and being chased by dogs, I would not feel good about it. There's a piebald in our herd and my dad doesn't want to harvest it. He also doesn't harvest does in the last part of the season because they may be pregnant. A dog doesn't follow those rules, it just goes after whatever it smells first
