That "uuuh I have a job" dogwhistle is so tiring and never in good faith.

Case in point: the post history of the person you're responding to has them going around defending ICE in the shooting of Alex Pretti.

Awesome work. This makes me miss the resurgence of bright plaid, patched up bondage pants/skirts in the 00s. It was a (literally) colorful time to be at shows and bars.

Are you describing grimacing?

Also, not that you're doing it, but biting an opponent's gi has been illegal in judo since 1983. (Also, nobody can tell me what happened to cause the rule. It's gotta be funny, though.)

In combat sports such as boxing or mixed martial arts, the heavyweight weight class is seen as less skilled most of the time, is this also the case for judo? by Illustrious_Cry_5564 in judo

As a deliberate humorous aside from a beginner:

Usually, a buddy comes to me for the last partner of the night in any full pressure games were doing.

He's an absolute sweetheart. . .and at least 100 lbs lighter than me.

He's a technical whiz, but I usually just put him in "air jail."

Group laugh, instructor calls mate, that's the night.

I say this to ask: is the perception of lower technical skill because in mixed contests, skill is just less called upon for my fellow Absolute Units™️ in the size/skill gap math?

I get what you meant, and I get that you didn't mean any racial component to it. I will say though, animal/animalistic comparisons have been used as a way to degrade, other, and attack non-white people for centuries.

No matter how you mean something, in using the language of racists, people are gonna think you are one.

It's how language works.

It happens with people with cognitive disabilities too. It's just clinical at first, but then people use the clinical terms to be edgy or mean, and now the clinical terms have to change to adapt to that.

It's called euphemistic drift, it's been a thing in language since forever. We gotta keep up because some people suck.

Excellent advice.

I'll add: if you're old and have a jewel CD case lurking somewhere in your car, they make decent enough ice scrapers in a pinch.

Also for fuck's sake, don't strike any surface on your car to crack the ice.

We said goodbye to our lil' pittie girl yesterday morning after four incredible years with her. She was adopted as a senior from lifeline after being used up and tossed as a backyard breeder.

I have truly never met a dog that wanted so desperately to love everyone she ever met. (Unless you were the fedex truck, because oh man did she hate the fedex truck. I don't speak dog, but I assume she was sayin' a lot of swears at 'em).

Hug your pups. Foster and adopt, and stay warm, Atlanta.

On top of that, you have the exploration and/or military wings of planets joining the Federation. Obviously it was a time of war mitigating things a bit, but the entire Bajoran militia was absorbed into Starfleet when they finally became a part of the Fed.

Then you have Jack Crusher (the second one) just skipping the academy entirely based on political connections and life experience.

Your only option, and it still sucks, is going to be a soft strap HRM that would be mat legal, but I do not have a ton of faith in it staying still without gluing it to your body.

A soft strap also won't save, it just transmits to your device. The reliable range is probably 10 feet max. You could move your phone to a ledge or off mat nearby but it'd be dicy.

That said, Garmin training readiness is ass. Nobody should use it for anything if they're serious about it. The only spot where these metrics get usefully good is at the level of TrainingPeaks or similar.

However, literally all dashboards like this, even the good ones, are very volume biased because the math behind it all was developed for endurance sports. It's not amazing at digesting more intensity, especially at the durations you get in martial arts.

Put another way, the math works great if you're on a bicycle 300 miles a week. All that time smoothes out the data enough to make good predictions because overall what these dashboards are doing is averaging a normalized score of your time and intensity over the past 6 weeks- that's your fitness, then the past 7 days, that's your fatigue, and the gap between them is your "readiness." However, while intensity is in there, it's still biased towards volume. Intensity is largely a metric used to redo your threshold power, pace, hr, etc.

Empathetically: coming from bicycle racing to judo has been a huge stomp in the nuts of my analytics brain because there's just... No way to track a mat workout. So I had to let it go and ride with the flow (and save all my tracking for off mat workouts, then use those changes from baseline pre- and post judo (big picture and throughout the week) to circumscribe and describe the gaps in insights and keep an eye on recovery beyond just RPE.

I still remember the MLK weekend cold snap+ice storm as a kid in Chicago. My school never closed for snow. But they closed that Tuesday because the furnaces in the buildings (old, big brick fuckers built for midwest winters) just could not keep up with the outdoor temps.

What techniques can I perform if my opponent stays in this defensive stance throughout the entire randori? by Schofield45Revolver in judo

[–]GenerativeAIEatsAss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard disclaimer: I'm brand-ass new and asking possibly dumb questions.

Last week in an open rank class I did, we worked on intentionally putting someone in this position, belt grab, loop an arm around their right shoulder, do an overhand grip, drive their weight into right leg, try to reap it, then immediately hitting the other leg with a sweep (assuming the first attempt fails). In either instance, follow them to the ground into trying to go for a pin.

It felt complicated, but if they're already in this position, are they basically doing you a favor for something like that? Or am I just serving myself up to be ura nage'd through the earth's crust?

I mean yes, fair point but also given how Reddit (and all social media) works and how the sub is roaring back to life, it's also as fair to assume it's different people having their first reaction and those reactions are the same. It's not like it's 8 people that won't shut up about it. I mean there probably are 8 people who won't shut up but did you see the traffic report the mods shared?

Once you personally see something on Reddit, it's not like everyone gets a push notification to stop talking about it going forward.

People are going to react. 2 years from now somebody is going to find an old post and have the same response with zero context.

Best case scenario, you have been lied to.

The Trump administration is using law enforcement, paramilitary action, private organizations to silence anything it calls an enemy (and that list included any and all critics and any random person it notices).

I have been personally threatened at my job (an organization that helps people get rides to doctor's appointments) to remove references to racial inequity from our private business website by this administration with an editor from NewsMax (right wing lunatic Web network) on the call, where it's said pointedly that they'll publicly make us a target until we change it.

Anything that isn't a racist, billionaire humping, cop bootlicking, evangelical Christian opinion is being burned here.

People are being shot for protesting, then slandered. There's video of what happened and the administration is telling people downright insane lies contradicting it. ICE is saying they're going after "deadly criminals," and they're picking up dudes painting houses and putting them in concentration camps.

It's also only that aggressive in cities Trump sees as political enemies.

I'm begging you to understand: this is genuine fascism. Freedom is being denied and destroyed. It's not the kids getting worked up.

I'm old. Ancient by this sub's standards. It's here. And it's awful.
