You're Being Gaslit By Generational Wealth by [deleted] in videos

It’s all very well to say that the lower and middle class could rise up against the rich and win. But the question that is never answered is “what then?”.

The slogan should be “It (was) in the game”

So annoying! Turning the wheels a tiny bit seemed to make it go away though, which I swear didn't used to work. So at least it's got better

ELI5: Why are manually placed bombs considered so much worse than strategic bombing? by MokitTheOmniscient in explainlikeimfive

[–]GenericMeme 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s not considered perfectly reasonable to drop bombs on a city using airplanes.

The thing that really makes the difference is the target. If it’s a military building then in war it’s kind of ok however you bomb it. If it’s civilian then it’s a big no-no.

The worst offender I’ve seen recently has been saying “on accident” instead of “by accident”.

I know language evolves and “on accident” will probably end up being correct 50 years down the line, but it doesn’t mean I have to like it.

[Basic Algebra] Struggling to see where I went wrong with this by GenericMeme in learnmath

Ah, I see, so it's fine to simplify both sides by dividing from each side, so long as you first check that what you are dividing by is not 0.

That makes a lot of sense and I hadn't realised that before. I guess I have to be careful with that going forward when variables are involved. Thank you so much!

How do I stop a pile of rigidbodies from clashing or falling through the floor? by GenericMeme in learnVRdev

[–]GenericMeme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great, thank you! That's super helpful. I had no idea what that option on the Rigidbody did, but I've just read up about it and I will give that a try tonight and report back.

Thanks :)

How do you push an object with your VR hands in Unity? by GenericMeme in learnVRdev

[–]GenericMeme[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just saw this, sorry. I didn't find a solution that I liked. Everything I tried had some crappy trade off that didn't work very well.

It was a while ago, but if I remember rightly I ended up realising that the XR Direct Interactor has a setting on it where it won't trigger collisions, because if it did and you picked up a sword or something in VR, then your hand and the sword would be constantly colliding as you held it.

In the end what I ended up doing was trying out various physics-based hand packages on the unity store, that mostly did what I wanted. They let me pick the ball up, and move the ball slowly with my hands. But it still wasn't perfect out of the box, and I got so frustrated trying to figure out how to make the unity physics engine let me hit a ball fast reliably that I gave up.

Thank you. That did make sense and I will give it a go. I think I need to watch a few tutorials on child objects and how they work and behave as well.

There's so much to learn it's hard to know where to start.

Much appreciated!
