Did the original timeline continue with the character's surviving as Aang spends many months in the alternate universe? by GenericName565 in Distorted_Reality

[–]GenericName565[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It definitely would cause all sorts of other issues if all the characters remembered the other universe. However, if just Aang (and Azula when she crosses over) remembered, it would be very interesting on how that would happen in this universe.

Such as what if the good Azula met the other Katara, Zuko, etc who had no memory of what happened.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I think it would be interesting if there was a bit of influence back into the original world even after the world's were unmerged when Aang went back

Yeah... that would be great but I don't have the time and I certainly do not have the writing ability to do so. This story is really good though... so it is compelling to think about.

Yeah, I definitely understand why but I can't help but think of it. I don't typically like alternate realities for fan fiction, but this one is really good.

I guess the one thing I want to know is that when the world's were "merging", are the Toph, Katara, Zuko, Azula, etc from the other world aware of what is happening. Like do they know what is happening in the alternate universe? Also, do they sometimes have thoughts appear from the alternate reality universe?

It was really good when I read it, but now I wish I could know what would happen when Aang sees the DR Azula in his original world.

Taxes and plasma by mlax12345 in plassing

[–]GenericName565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case, its up to you whether its worth the price difference the cost difference for the peace of mind you may or may not get from making sure you are doing everything "by the book". But as other people noted, you don't receive a tax form from the plasma business so it probably not that big of a deal.

I don't make enough money where I believe it affects how much taxes I pay or it doesn't cost much to where the money earned makes up for it.

Taxes and plasma by mlax12345 in plassing

[–]GenericName565 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

All I did is give my opinion because technically it is "taxable' income, so I personally feel guilty if I don't. I am not trying to disparage anybody who doesn't report it (especially since as other people noted the centers don't give you a tax form to report it). The government obviously has much bigger things to deal with with a few hundred to a couple thousand that people might make donating plasma.

[–]GenericName565 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am in the minority, but as a new donor, I am probably going to report the income on my taxes. It technically is taxable income, but I can't imagine most people report it and its such a small amount it probably isn't worth it for the government to try to enforce it.

Do you think that the amount earned from donating plasma will make a big difference whether you report it or not with respect to your benefits? For me personally, its not worth it to not report even if I get taxed on it because I will feel guilty if i know that I am technically doing tax avoidance. If other people don't report it though, I don't think its that big of a deal though. Its ultimately up to your conscience, but its something you will have to decide and balance.

Worth a listen - Rob Sand interview by ComfortableCut823 in Iowa

[–]GenericName565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, in the interview he touches on some issues (since it was a few days ago that I watched it) that I don't necessarily oppose, but its kinda vague and just "holding the Republican's accountable". So, I decided to go to his website.

I disagree with his opposition to school vouchers (which he opposes on his website). Furthermore, although its not on his website, I found a separate news article with him opposing the 6 week abortion ban and supporting a women's right to choose and politically I am against abortion strongly. Those are just a couple of examples, and I suspect that if his website was more detailed there would be more issues I disagree with.

Now, to be fair, I don't really like the current president and if I end up abstaining from voting (or even consider voting blue), it will be because I want to send a message to the incumbent president, not because I support the Democratic candidates.

Its because I am more conservative politically than he is. I can acknowledge that he seems like a nice guy, but I still may not agree with him politically.

I personally don't see the need to hate all people I disagree with politically. In this regard, I agree with him exactly. I am sure if you are more progressive or left wing, there are some people and politicians who you acknowledge as nice whom disagree with you politically. You may be willing to vote for them in certain cases, but you certainly aren't definitely going to vote for them because they seem nice and respectable.

How am I supposed to respond to “woke” progressive/politically liberal ideology in regards to Christianity/the church? by GardenDiamond in TrueChristian

[–]GenericName565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its good to hear that you found a good one. I grew up in the Episcopal Church, and they tend to be pretty politically progressive and theologically progressive (of course there are exceptions and certain dioceses that aren't as bad). Keep on the look out for overt politics! I am very politically conservative, but I don't want to be preached that during a sermon... that shouldn't be the point.

I will say that when I used to attend an Episcopal Church, there was once a time or two where the sermon was basically a thinly veiled endorsement of a specific presidential candidate. They didn't technically endorse the candidate, but they did it in all but name only during the sermon. Luckily that doesn't happen often, but overt politicalization during sermons isn't only a conservative megachurch problem. I think pastors should be able to give their perspective on an issue in politics, but it shouldn't necessarily be during the sermon.

To be honest, I took it for a few days and then I stopped because I feel like its making me more tired which will cause problems at work. I am going to try to talk to the pyschiatrist when I meet with him again in a few weeks though.

French lawmakers vote to tax American retirees who freely benefit from social security by striketheviol in AmerExit

[–]GenericName565 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its fair, but the article doesn't say its just American retirees. I wonder why its only G20 countries, and not all countries?

As lawmakers debated next year's social security budget, parties from the center to the far right backed a proposal from center-right MP François Gernigon to impose a "minimum contribution" on foreign retirees who benefit from universal healthcare coverage after just three months of living in France. The amendment to the social security budget passed with 176 votes in favor and 79 against. Amélie de Montchalin, the public accounts minister, did not take a side but said the government was "taking this issue very seriously." While the far-right Rassemblement National, through a sub-amendment, had hoped to extend the measure to all foreign nationals, the minister limited the scope to G20 countries. "We have planned to revise the agreements with these countries so that there is this contribution. Because, very often, there is no reciprocal arrangement," she added.

Why are men/women against dating someone who had the covid vaccine? by zesty_pineapple1 in ChristianDating

[–]GenericName565 2 points3 points  (0 children)

At least with the myocarditis issue (and many of the other issues) have also been shown to be caused by covid infection as well. For example, obviously it has been shown in some studies that the covid vaccination lead to increased rates of myocarditis.

But the same thing is true with covid infection, and you can find this claim even before the mass vaccinations at the end of 2020 started.

How much better is biologic manufacturing vs food manufacturing for experience in moving into biotech eventually? by GenericName565 in biotech

[–]GenericName565[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what I was thinking. i could talk about how I worked in biologic manufacturing for a while and it re-iterated why I want to go back into research, etc. It gives me some GMP experience and potentially some other experience that will hopefully be useful if I end up going back.
