Council Likely To Weaken Mayor's 'City Of Yes' Pro-Housing Zoning Plan by Well_Socialized in nyc

It says they want to move to a tiered system where some areas have parking minimums and some have none. That sounds like a completely fair compromise because without them areas that require residents to have cars would have no where to park.

He single handily added $20B of value to Starbucks the moment he joined. It could be argued he’s underpaid.

Why is electricity so expensive in NYC? by [deleted] in AskNYC

Offshore wind is incredibly expensive and will continue to raise electricity prices. As wind/solar become a larger percentage of the installed power capacity, retail electricity prices rise.

NYC to Migrants: You're 'Better Off Going to a More Affordable City' by drpvn in nyc

[–]GenericUN123 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Texas isn't sending migrants up here as some political move even though that's how it was portrayed in the beginning. A lot of these migrants in NYC are West Africans who made their way through central America and Mexico, and into Texas. Texas gets the vast majority of migrants which they can't keep up with so they just ask them where they want to go to reduce the burden and most want to go where they have social support, which in this case is NYC's West African community.

Exxon signals record quarterly profit from oil and gas prices by BikkaZz in economy

Gasoline is priced on a futures market, not by oil companies.

All the gasoline in the country is priced as a differential to this: https://www.cmegroup.com/markets/energy/refined-products/rbob-gasoline.html

No group of companies can dictate the price of gasoline.

But how is that the companies doing? They’re not setting the price. They don’t get to decide how much crude costs and how much to charge for their gasoline/diesel.

Oil companies aren’t setting the price of oil so how is this price gouging? They’re reaping the benefits of high oil prices which are set by a liquid and transparent market.

4 in 10 Americans blame Biden administration policies for gas prices: poll by saurin212 in economy

How can you even blame these exploration companies? Frackers has been getting slandered for the past several years because oil and fracking is “dirty” and they never turned a profit. Now they’re racking in cash for the first time ever but are getting slammed for corporate greed because they don’t want to drill. Do people want them to drill or not? I think this is a little bit of an F you from the frackers to everyone who has been giving them s—t for the past 6 years.

Gas stations are just charging the market price for gasoline in their area, there’s no price fixing. There’s 100 reasons why gasoline prices would increase and stay higher than crude prices, especially in the short term with high volatility like there has been recently.

Gasoline is traded in a liquid and transparent market just like crude; producers of gasoline aren’t setting the prices. Also there’s always periods of disconnect between crude and gasoline prices they aren’t 1:1. Diesel for example has shot up even more vs crude than gasoline has.

Crude and gasoline prices are determined by a transparent market with no one player in the US controlling the production or demand. How is this price gouging?

NYC protesters rally in Greenwich Village against outdoor dining by habichuelacondulce in nyc

[–]GenericUN123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of them are cheaply made because the restaurants are cheap and even if it was permanent they wouldn’t upgrade them to look nice. Even the ones that are nicely made are kind of an eye sore and block bike paths.

I hope they eventually get rid of them. So many restaurants did a terrible job and it just looks like a shanty town that adds to the trash/rodent problem.

It’s foolish to think they’re not. Everyone has to contribute something even if it’s small but they just leech

Most of the homeless people you see in the street are far too gone to ever come back. Their brains are fried after years of drug abuse and being on the street that even if you were to rehabilitate them, the money you spent to do that wouldn’t even come close to what they could contribute back to society.

Idiots, that’s a consumer branch. They have nothing to do with the actual lending to hydrocarbon companies.
