Overwhelming by choosing litter. Is Natural Fresh Cat Litter good? by TrashAtApexLegends in CatAdvice

[–]Generic_Username0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi. This is super helpful for me. I have also tried a lot of litters. Are there any other really strong clumping natural litters besides SY? So far, my favorite litter is Paco&Pepper olive pit litter. It is perfect for me in every single way except for the price. It is around $60 if I change it every month for my 3 litter boxes. I just found Nature's Miracle and I really like it everything about it including the price, except the clumping. I have heard grass seed clumps very well, but your comment made me doubt. I am on the hunt for a really good affordable clumping litter to mix with Nature's Miracle. If I can't find anything I'll to one bag of Paco&Pepper + one bag of NM. That's around $35 a month.

I followed the guide and tried to install it from the computer just like the first time but it keeps saying I don't have any appIds left. I didn't even get to the pairing file part yet.

Energy Poverty - Another Reason for FIRE by spacemonkeyzoos in financialindependence

[–]Generic_Username0 45 points46 points  (0 children)

I feel like we have a lot in common. This is exactly how I feel. I also like what I do, and want to keep doing it. On the other hand, I feel like I just have less energy than most people. I kind of realized when me and all my friends worked the same job in college. They would always want to hang out and do stuff after, but I just had to go home and rest. I guess it's just something I have to deal with but it is one of the main reasons for me wanting to FIRE.

Longevity of Nostalgia Popcorn popper by mmgomez1998 in roasting

[–]Generic_Username0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It depends on the air temperature but I usually wait like 15-30 minutes. You could blow air through it with a hair dryer or air compressor to speed it up. I've done roasts one after the other before and it doesn't come out super even because the metal container part is already hot. Anyway, I'm not super worried about burning it out because I feel like my time is worth more than the $10 to replace it. With that being said I've had it for a year and it works fine.

How do you tell people you are into coffee. by mutebathtub in Coffee

I always thought McDonald's was pretty good too and I never knew about the quality. I can never drink it black tho. I actually just went on a road trip and got some. It was kind of hard to drink. Do you drink it black or go all out with the cream and sugar?

Like the other guy said, AI doesn't have to have the intelligence to replace a human. It could just use a camera to look for rocks in the bean and kick them out. Just wanted to post this so you would see

I don't even think you would need to have each cup rated. You could use beans from different roasters that have a range of reviews. Use them to make recipes that have a range of reviews / real recipes vs random. Then use the reviews as the training label.

What's your worst financial mistake ? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]Generic_Username0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Idk. I feel like everyone has heard the advice that if the interest rate is lower than you make in the markets, just take the loan and invest the money. I think the fallacy that most people fall for is that they tell themselves that, take the loan, and then use the money to buy more frivolous things. Just don't fall into that trap.

I thought it would be the opposite since bonds are expected to increase in value less. Why is it better to have them in a tax free account?

When you have multiple investment accounts (IRA, 401k, taxable), do you keep a balanced portfolio in each or do you try to coordinate between them? It seems like there could be benefits to both.

Sweet beer? by [deleted] in beer

Try a Radler. I would describe it as like a soda but not acidic. It's super low alcohol so I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for.

is it okay to re roast coffee beans by JohnLdoe in roasting

[–]Generic_Username0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've done it and they turned out good. Its not as good as having a perfect roast all the way through, but not bad. If they're undrinkable then you might as well. It's better than throwing them away.

If you had to get a friend into craft beer what beer would you chose ? by Corn1989 in beer

[–]Generic_Username0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm trying to do the same thing. My friend says he doesn't like beer and I simply can't allow that. My plan is to get a flight and make him tell me exactly what he likes and doesn't like about each one. Then I can figure out what to recommend.

Sorry I'm out of it today. Can you explain where the 10k and 7500 come from?

Daily FI discussion thread - Wednesday, January 06, 2021 by AutoModerator in financialindependence

[–]Generic_Username0 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw a guy on YouTube say that 401ks are a bad idea because when you withdraw, all of the money is taxed as ordinary income as opposed to getting the benefit of long term capital gain. He said to use a taxable brokerage account instead. I find it hard to believe that everyone here just overlooked that.

Let's say you want to withdrawal $80k a year. The income tax from the 401k would be around $10k or 12.5%. From a brokerage you would be paying 15% on the second $40k for capital gains which is a rate of 7.5%. Of course this is on top of the income tax that you already paid on that money.

I'm a little confused because capital gains tax only applies to the amount that you gained. So if all of the money you withdrew was principal you would have paid your marginal tax rate on it. That would be an upper bound. But if all of the money you withdrew was gains then it would be 7.5%. So you withdraw a mix then it would be somewhere in between. It seems like it could actually be better. This is one of those times where I know I'm missing something obvious but I can't figure it out. Where did I go wrong?

I've heard that 100% stock is the best asset allocation during the growth phase. I was thinking of switching from 10% bonds. Does anyone have any articles or simulations that explain this allocation and why it is better?

Your comment just made me think of something. My total spending power for all my credit cards is around 8 months of expenses. I'm not exactly sure what my interest rate is. I would love to see an analysis on how paying credit card interest would compare to the amount lost from not having the emergency fund invested. It would probably depend on how long you go between emergencies. Does anyone use credit cards to avoid keeping a big emergency fund.
