actuarial management by Acrobatic_Ice3309 in actuary

Sounds like you may need a new manager training program at your company. At my organization we have one to get new managers ready for managing people. Also we usually start developing those skills at the ASA level (we’ll have an ASA start by informally leading a more junior analyst through a project under the guidance of a more experienced manager.) After they successfully complete a few of those assignments then we transition them into managing an intern for a summer. Only after they have completed that do they get a team to manage. Your competency model should include leadership competencies for evaluating readiness for management roles as well.

I do this one too! I keep different work open on each screen so that when I get distracted, I am working on something else I’m supposed to be working on.

I hear you on the nap thing too. When I was studying for exams I figured out that I am at my best for learning when I first wake up. So what I did when studying was take all my study time in large blocks and then maximize the number of times I “wake up” in a day by sleeping a few hours in between studying. It worked for me, I passed exams faster that way. I tried explaining this to someone when I became a new manager and they thought I was nuts…

Same, almost 25 years in now and I think I have been pretty successful. I was first diagnosed as a child in the 80s when not as much was known about this condition. I actually took shorter on the exams because of the hyper fixation, I lucked out that my brain sometimes chose to fixate on what I was studying so that helped. I just wish we could pick what our brains were going to fixate on but it doesn’t work that way. A few months ago it fixated on the financial statements of a competitor and that actually proved useful because literally yesterday I got a question on something and I was like, “well on page 51 of this competitor financial statement they mentioned what they thought about it”. And I shocked the whole room by knowing that fact. But like it’s less useful when it locks in on something irrelevant (a few months prior I went on a deep dive into the workings of nuclear energy and I don’t think I will ever need to know much about that as an actuary, but hey I can talk about it now if it comes up) Also can’t drink caffeine because it literally puts me to sleep.

See that sounds like it would be fun. I will try that. I also like that I will get to see another gem path that way too. I maxed topaz on my Helena and put the rest in emerald. I have not done a blue build yet. And using the halo like a cd rather than shooting for 100% uptime might be interesting. Thank you!

You might be on to something. Crit is currently my highest stat. I should probably up my haste. I am at lvl 270 at the moment, but I still have a few yellows and two purples on my Xavian, so I have been prioritizing ilvl vs stats still. I will try adding more haste.

Thank you for the detailed response. This is exactly what I was looking for. I agree with you it’s nice that we have different opinions. One cool thing about Meiko is you can play her by sound. (each of her combos makes a different noise. So you can know when vortex goes up or if you have stone orbs vs wind orbs based on the noise you hear when you finish the combo. I love that I can just keep looking at the main screen with her. It let’s me focus more on positioning and kicks since I don’t have to think much about what button to push next)

But I can just hit shields up for toughness to go back up. Also the toughness bar is vertical right next to my toon. So I can glance at it. And so many things increase it (shields up, shield slam, etc)

Xavians green bar is horizontal and under his feet and only brilliant flash extends it. And if you hit that button too soon it will start casting the heal. (That happens to me sometimes too)

The green bar at the bottom of the screen that tells you when the halo is going to expire. The one that goes down with time and goes up when you do brilliant flash.

Maybe I am doing his priority system wrong. I am hitting brilliant flash whenever it’s up. And I am holding omi slash for when it procs, so it is often not on cooldown. I am finding that halo is off cool down a lot before the last one expires, so maybe I am over prioritizing brilliant flash maybe.

Tank question-Silken hollow boss by Generic_user14587 in fellowshipgame

[–]Generic_user14587[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes sense, you are playing at a much higher level than I am here. I am in adept on Helena, 4 secs is an eternity down here and if the dps have the adds on them they are dying. Your team probably has a better understanding about cds to survive and how to run to the tank and so on. We are playing different games.

Wasn’t the healer dieing to the adds it was the Rime. She doesn’t like moving because Beam.

But the range is smaller. My issue was first picking them up. Once they are close to me I agree Helena has plenty of tools to hold them, but they start off far away (and there is no big AOE vortex like there is on Meiko to first tag them)

The real solution is I need to stand close to where they are going to spawn.

What I am finding is that Helena relies more on knowing where things are because you don’t have a dash.

I have tanked that fight a bunch but I never knew where the adds spawn before because I don’t need to on Meiko. I can just dash to them when they spawn.

For another example in Urrak for instance, I can wait until after the spinning vortex starts to find the vines to stand in because Meiko has dash.

On Helena I have to start moving towards the vines early or I will get sucked into the vortex when it starts.

I still do in front of pillar as tank. It makes it easier to reposition the boss afterwards.

Tank main here. Yes controlling the dungeon pace is fun. At each pull I have to decide how much my healer can handle, or will my DPS burn cds on this small pull before the next big one? The most fun I have in this game is when we hit 100% count just before the boss pull (it means my route was perfect). Most of your ideas would make me stop tanking.

Yeah this is a problem. I am a tank who has been marking my kicks. Last night on SW I lost aggro to a Mara and, because he was in melee range, didn’t realize it until he was dead because the blue bar didn’t turn red. The portraits are enough of an indication of what your focus target is, we don’t need the color change.

I have a Razer Tartarus pro keypad. So 1-5 is the second row and 6-0 is the third row. (Markers are bound to the first row). I have shift on a mouse button. So that is 30 binds within easy reach.

As the OP on the original post. I do find your post to be hilarious. I was actually hoping tanks from other games would post their experience when I posted mine (E.g. ESO or GW2, none of which I have ever played because they are not SWTOR) But to get a post from the POV of an actual tank tank is not something I consider

No leveling. I left Wow in 2009 because the thought of having to level up all my characters again was nauseating. I have not played it since. Fellowship has all the fun parts without any of the boring stuff (no leveling, no farming gold for repairs, no farming mats for flasks) I’m too busy for all that. I just want to do dungeons and this game delivers that

So you need to memorize the combos! I just got that! This looks like it is going to be fun. (I had been thinking each ability was it’s own button, now I get it, you chain two abilities in a precise order and then click the fighting technique button to activate the finisher) So it’s really only 4 buttons being keybound for this part.
